Hello ,good morning and Feliz ano novo from not so sunny Portugal, the weather has been very overcast and breezy for quite a few days now, Christmas Eve we had a warmer version of what you had with gale force winds and torrential rain, but it still remains warm enough to reach for the shorts in the morning rather than long trousers. Anyway that's not enough to warrant the title MAJOR UPDATE is it so what is?. Well it's this , it looks like when me and Lilian return in April we will be putting Our beloved Narrowboat home up for sale, the intention is to buy a fair sized mobile caravan which will be permanently sited here on the campsite in Olhao, it will have a huge awning attached to extend the living space and will become our permanent home from mid September to late June, we will then return to the UK for the 3 hottest months down here. We will keep the motorhome for travelling to and from UK and it can go into storage down here for €1/day. It should bd fine in these lovely climes and will also provide us with accommodation when we are back visiting friends and relations. Lilian will be able to come home a couple of times a year on the cheap flights out of Faro airport. The weather is definitely having a beneficial effect on my health, and it seems that Britian and Portugal have an agreement where Brit passport holders can receive medical care on what passes for their NHS. This worried me a little but let's face it we all have been let down by the Brit NHS to some degree or another or know someone who has , so I'll take my chances. Anyway that's it for now, it just leaves me to wish you all my sincerest best wishes for the coming year, I shall continue to keep in touch periodically. Bye for now, GOD bless.xxx

Wow! Great adventures ahead for you and Lilian. You have to do what's best for your health. I always say 'quality of life is paramount'. Little of that here at the moment.
I am tempted to move to Southern France this year when I sell up in London if I can summon up the courage.
Great decision, all the best for 2014 and beyond. Looking forward to next instalments xxx
What good news, canalchris, for you. A perfect situation for you. I dont know much about Portugal, except it is a beautiful country. Also good to know that their health service can help you. Personally, I have never had problems with the NHS, neither has Brian.
We are moving down south, to be near daughter. My heart is in the UK, although I know the problems this country has. Good to know Portugal suits your health. I am hoping the same, being near the sea in Hants.
All the best - xx
