Whilst seeing other new members receiving loads of welcomes and advice. I felt really down.....was my first post so boring or l did I come across as a bore.....Then l saw I had 16 spams, I very rarely have anything in my spam box. and then saw they were all healthunlocked. How that happened I don't know but it is now 12.45am and l need to go to bed, but l feel happier now.
BEING A NEW MEMBER !!!!! WHAT A NIGHT... - Lung Conditions C...
BEING A NEW MEMBER !!!!! WHAT A NIGHTMARE !!!! AT FIRST I THOUGHT I HAD BEEN TAKEN OVER AND NEARLY UNSUBSCRIBED. ONLY HAD 3 OR 4 REPLIES...
The same thing happened to me, you are not alone. All the messages from healthunlocked were in my junk folder !
Glad you are feeling happier now & hope you get a good night's sleep
Thanks so much Impy for your comments. I've been worrying all day about last nights post thinking everyone will think l am a pain.....You made feel better.
Welcome to the site, I am relatively new too, but it has helped me enormously, no post is boring, you will find that whatever you are thinking/feeling someone has been there before you. To stop going to junk mail, right click on the email address, got to 'junk mail' and add to safe senders list, then you should receive mail normally xx
I am a new member, just joined today. How long have you been a member for ?
I have added email address to my safe senders list now.
I contacted the BLF helpline for the first time last year and I was overwhelmed by the kindness of all the people there, their help and support has been invaluable. One of the nurses suggested I join this site to share experiences/feelings/thoughts & hear from other patients too.
Hi Impy, I joined last April, dont post much, just when I am feeling very down, which is getting less, so I should post something good for a change LOL
Sleep well,
Be assured it`s nice to have you on this site and you will find a lot of really nice caring people when you need them.
Tom.

Hello seistasue, welcome to the site, hope you come back after a good nights sleep sure you will like it on here now you have sorted the email situation out.
Hello to all the new people. I haven't been on for a few days so I missed your arrival. I joined 2 years ago and it is a good site with lots of information for those new to their condition.
Lynne xx
A great big Hallo! to all the new people. I joined last spring too and find everyone on here very friendly. At this time of year most people are busy with family or are feeling unwell due to the Cough and Cold season being here.I am sure all the regulars will be back soon. I do hope so because I miss all the Jokes. (where are you King of the Cocktails?)
PTxx
I find my e-mails going to my spam box, really annoying. Anyway welcome to the site, hope you make lots of new friends and find the chat helpful and informative. Take care. Lizzy
Welcome to the site to all the new ones, and hi to all the old members hope everyone is fit and well and that this rotten weather is not getting you down lol x
Hi I don't say much but find that when there is something worrying me this BHF community has most of the answers. Someone seems to ask for advice about whats on my mind so I find it so useful to keep in daily touch and take the advice which sometimes really helps. As far as the spams I don't get any but if so would just junk them best to ignore anything that upsets you.
Welcome siestasue...and I LOVE your name.. I like a siesta too, as I wake VERY early and go to bed late
Hullo, siestasue and welcome. I have belonged to this site for quite a long time, although I did have a name change, I feel at home. We do have some adventures with our laptops etc. dont we. I am thinking of asking for advice from someone. I have been locked out of my Face Book. It is annoying because it is a great way of keeping in touch with relatives abroad, and receiving photos. They wont accept any identifying password?? Cancel old account? Perhaps someone reading this.....
I've been a member from the US for several weeks and, aside from the regular newsletter, haven't heard a peep from any other members except for a form letter sort of welcome the first day. It's not really bothersome but if someone wants to respond please do...; don't be intimidated by the fact I'm a Colonial Boy..., Har, Har, Har....
Hi Dmactds, Welcome.... but l have only been a member myself for a couple of weeks. Can l ask.....is there not an American Lung Foundation to join? I ask because drugs have different names here and there are other variables between the two countries.
Yes, Siestasue, I suppose you're right; however, when I found this group, I wasn't looking for any kind of support group..., I just happened to stumble across it and thought, "Well..., why not join up and see what's up, they may have a different perspective?" So here I am.
A question HAS been on my mind lately and that is how doctors over there in England suggest one follows the Symbicort doses after inhaling. I've noticed one or two people mention that they merely swish water around in their mouths and swallow.
Here, my doc suggested rather firmly that a good tooth brushing was in order followed by a gargle, neither of which involving swallowing.
So..., if possible, I'd appreciate a bit of feedback about this if (as you Brits say...) it strikes anyone's fancy...!!
Love and the best to all,
Duncan
Hi Welcome to the forum.I was also told to brush teeth and gargle after ANY steroid inhaler to stop mouth thrush. I think if your doctor has come across someone with the problem they are more inclined to give you the good advice.
Regards
PT
Hi Duncan, it's funny how different drugs work for different people. I was on Symbicort a couple of months ago, but it had no effect on me whatsoever so was changed to another brand. But agree l was told to at least gargle after each use. Is it working for you? On a different note.....l don't know how old you are, but sad to have just heard on the news that Phil Everly has died. So sad. They were part of my youth.
Yes, Sue..., It is, indeed, working for me; after I started it took several days I guess for it to build up in my lungs and do its work but now, if I ever go without it for a few days, it becomes obvious. However, equally important is exercise, even if it's simply walking, something that's difficult to do during this particular Winter. We're expecting lows of 7 degrees F. tomorrow night. It's rainy. It's windy. It's not "stroll pleasant" weather.
I sent a BBC production of a 1984 video on the Everly's that you may have to cut and paste the URL into your browser's address bar to use. It's about an hour and 45 min., but it brings up some things I'd never known (or had forgotten) about those two. Quite interesting.
Remember...., EXERCISE, even pushing it is important in dealing with this nuisance.
LOve to all,
Duncan
Hi Duncan, Glad to hear that Symbicort is working for you, I've yet to find the extra inhaler that works for me, still trial and error! As for exercise.......l have to stop after a couple of minutes walking to catch my breath!
As for the BBC 1984 video you say you have sent...l have no idea where it is....and even if l did l would not know what to do with it.... " copy and paste " is something l don't understand. But thanks for the gesture.
On another note....would l be right in thinking that in the USA you have to pay for your drugs? I ask because l lived in Spain for many years and had private health care ( along with public heath cover ) but had to pay for drugs under the private scheme.
Well...., for different folks...., there's different strokes...; that goes for health care costs as well depending on what plan you have. Many people here DO have to pay for their medicine and then there're folks like me who either joined or were drafted into the military years ago and as a consequence, we get pretty much free health care and that involves medicine in many cases as well.
It's one of the side benefits of laying your life on the line for your country.
As for the video, perhaps eventually you'll figure the computer out a bit better and get more use out of it. I gave up on commercial television quite awhile back and watch videos pretty much exclusively online.
Love to all,
Duncan
Siestasue Welcome! it might be a good idea to check in your account how you receive your emails. To do this, see the greenband on top, click on the 3 little bars, then in your name: account. You will see in your account: contact preferences. Adjust this to however you would like to receive our news. sometimes you only want a summary, so click on that. Or you would like a notice as soon as someone creates a new post, click on that. Hope that helps. Tell us how you get on!
A big hello to all you newcomers. I only joined four months ago, but can honestly say that everyone is so supportive and helpfully, and always there when you need them. And yes, where is KOTC? We need some jokes, and stories to keep us going. Happy new year to everyone of you. X
