Becraftygirl. I dont think you are alone in feeling this way. Some say it breaks the winter up. Depends a lot on whether you live alone. I wonder if there is anyone else in the forum that feels the same way. For me the hectic excitement of Christmas has long since gone. It will be the last in this home of ours since 1968 then a move. This house moving business aint for me - lists and things to do.

Yes of course you are normal. Not a big fan these days myself - too much hassle and pressure to get stuff done early in case you get the lurgy. It's the lead up and too commercialised but I do enjoy the actual day, especially now with the little one.

There are lots of folks who don't like Christmas for one reason or another.

I think lots of people think like u

Like u I can't help but think what it's like for lonely people and it must be so hard for those people who don't have much money .

Christmas can jump up and grab you by the throat if you are not ready for it. All that rushing round. I cracked it though, I started in September. Buy a present or two a week and start getting the tinned stuff in plus anything with a long use by date. I have a large four shelf unit in my boiler room and it is chocabloc. It also serves as my emergency food supply if we get snowed in. All I have got to get now for Christmas is the fresh veg at the last minute.

Oh to answer your question. I know very few women that actually look forward to Christmas.

I loved Christmas before I got sick, and I love it still, for the same two reasons. The first is the reason we celebrate it to begin with, the birth of a special child - a miracle. The second is any Christmas Tree I've ever seen anytime, anywhere is purely magical! Through the years things change, but my reasons for loving Christmas don't.

Yes you are normal, it start's to early for one thing and it's lost it's real meaning I think.

in reply torick1

Bitter- sweet in that I miss my loved ones more . I don't really mind too much that I will probably be on my own but yeah, I agree with you Rick...Christmas has lost it's real meaning and that's the bit I find sad. I have been invited to a carol concert with a band though and this includes a buffet. I am looking forward very much to that.:) Lovelight xx

I don't like all the hype and what to buy for whom,it's very stressfull, if we ever had a battle royal it would be pre-christmas! funny that, I wonder if I shall miss it this year, we had the silence is golden for days! Bless him.

My thoughts are that on the 21st December it's the turning point of the year and the days will get gradually lighter albeit just a few seconds a day.. My grandaughter rang me the other morning and said grandma the sun has just come out I think Grandad has just got up! Wasn't that sweet! To all of my amazing E-friends wherever you are and what ever you are doing over the festive season I send greetings for a calm and peacefull time and may all sufferers Breathe Easy and all Carers have time to put your feet up and restore your energy, Keep the grin above the chin XXX AL

I have disliked Christmas for years, long before lung disease. My family and I are in the hospitality business so it has always been the busiest time. It is so hard to have any sort of Christmas when you are working 12 hour days. I am part time now but still find it difficult as they all still expect presents around the tree and a good Christmas dinner on the table (late in the evening, because some are still working until 6pm) So If you go out for your Christmas lunch have a thought for the staff and their families.Like AL I also look forward to 21st December and think of it as a start to the better weather and light nights which I love.

Its People who have DESTROYED Christmass - It was once a fairly simple celebration of the Birth of a very special Baby two thousand years ago, now it has descended into the sewer of an almighty drinking binge, massive over eating, colossal spending on items that people could really do without and in this a colossal obsession with materialism in general. I can remember when Christmass started about two weeks or so before the 25th, getting some food in, purchasing fairly moderate presents and putting up decorations like paper chains, which we kids had to lick the strips of paper, link them together to form miles of chain etc. This year I saw Christmass cards on sale in JUNE , my local Pub was advertising the Christmass Day Lunch in AUGUST - bloody ridiculous ! AND to top it all, had kids calling round at the end of SEPTEMBER - DOING WHAT PASSES FOR SINGING = CAROLS !.

Now, I spend Christmass Day helping out at a Homeless Rufuge to those who have NOTHING - somewhat like that Baby had in Bethlehem all those years ago .............and so the wheel has turned ........

Yeah - here here vittorio. Could relate to much of your message and also remember how mum and dad used to 'open' up the front room for christmas, reserved only for rare occasions. On christmas morning we were taken through and it looked so magical, like a fairy wonderland. God bless them, they worked so hard xx

Pete and I are so lucky to have each other and a brilliant family but we are not so crazy about the material side of Christmas. Fortunately we now have our grandson who will be 18 months next week so that is lovely. Children get excited and enjoy everything so we will try and look at things through his eyes. Secretly, cannot wait for it all to be over! xxxxx

Well, I'm not particularly religious (though appreciate others are) and sad things have happened over the years around Christmas to cast shadows.

Now it's a time I very much look forward to, all the family being together sharing a meal prepared by us all.

We are building happy magical memories for the future. Christmas doesn't have to cost the earth and you dont have to stuff yourself senseless - unless you really want to and can afford it of course!

This year, my last in London, my son Will & Marina who live in S of France will be staying from 21st - 1st Jan. Anna & her Ben have a newish baby sister for their Daisy and youngest Nellie has finally found a forever love. Their beloved dad died 10th Dec 2010 so it will be particularly poignant and very special this year. At last broken hearts are mending and sadness is fading. So much to be thankful for.

Having said that, a trip to the supermarket pre Christmas is a pretty dis-spiriting & vomit enducing experience!

I have just started my christmas. Been too busy decorating and getting used to oxygen and the time slipped by. No problem. Xmas presents all bought online and posted. Card writing and room decor this weekend. Xmas tree buying on Tuesday. Big food shop (hubby will do!) Thursday. That leaves fresh food shopping for 23rd. Job done!! Don't get involved in over spending, over eating, over drinking. Just enjoy friends and family.

My comfort with Christmas is that it is that, the birth of the Almighty. Almighty is a comforting thought for me, because of the magnificence of the universe and creation. There are lovely people around who really think lovely thoughts for the season and try to do good.

My other comfort is that that will be the shortest day. After Christmas, the day will lengthen, A friend of mine told me of Christmas as life in waiting to germinate. I wish you all to gather strength. Take courage and patience. Do not fear, since Christmas is upon us, soon we will go into the light. Take care and have it peaceful.

Christmas means so many things to different people. If you are alone you can spend the day in perfect peace if that is not what you want there are lots of short holidays you can join in. If on the other hand you have familly or friends and you find the day tiring explane and leave early They will understand. Alternatively just treat it as just another day go for a walk cook your meal and maybe watch the tv or a video. Whatever you decide I wish you well.

I'm on your side! Can't stand Christmas at all, the crazy excitement is annoying,& cant help but think of all those that are homeless & those that are ill, We still cook a big supper & our children get their presents, & have made it clear that father Christmas does not come down a chimney & leave presents & that it's all make believe, we just use this time to come together as a family which can happen any time of year! can't wait for all this histeria to be over with, best wishes for the new year!x

I attended a school carol singing concert with one of my children the morning after my father died. (couldnt let him down). Carols still upset me many years later.

When we have health problems we thrive on routine. Even the tv programmes we watch give structure to the day and Christmas takes that away. It doesn't help that they are spreading it out so long now. I like Christmas Day but have always hated the New Year with all its nostalgia.
