Check BLF helpline, they have a list of insurers. Click red balloon top right for contact number, lines manned 10 am to 5pm normal working week days.

Enjoy your flight, going anywhere nice?

Try Insurance Choice, they are brokers, very quick and reasonably priced. They have insured me a couple of times with Mapfre.

All Clear Insurance has covered me many times. Very reasonably priced too.

Worldwide Travel Insurers gave me cover at a very reasonable rate no problem 3 years ago though I declared COPD, but last year wouldn't cover me for COPD as I had been in hospital with a chest infection (for 4 days!) six months previously. It seems that COPD doesn't frighten the Insurer too much unless you've needed hospital treatment in the last year.

Good luck! Hope you get your Insurance sorted okay. :-)

Edited because spotted couple of silly typos!

We have used Holiday Extras a few times for long or short haul holidays, they have been very good about covering everything and have been extremely reasonable. Have a good holiday

I used travel time in October when I travelled to the USA, they were the cheapest quote I could find,

Put pre existing condition insurers in google or other search sites.

Watch the small print some insurance companies have a get out clause if the insurance was not purchased at the time of the holiday.

Staysure for "OLD" people, I have used them for several years travelling to the USA. They add about 5% for COPD preconditions providing you only take two inhalers. Good customer service :-)

I have just insured with Aviva with no problems. I am flying to Australia next week and have severe C.O.P.D.

It sometimes is better to go for insurance long before you go so you can shop around. In my experience they often insure at reasonable rate first year then refuse next time. But having said that I use three inhalers, am over 65 with other health issues but have a reasonable priced annual European insurance with goodtogoinsurance. They offer different levels too and annual cover which a lot of companies won't give if you have COPD. Advice then is shop on line and try varied companies

Katie. Good To Go will also give you extra insurance to cover you if a close relative is taken ill causing you to cancel. The vast majority of insurance companies don't and many people don't realise this. My wife, who holidays with my daughter, could only find two companies that would cover her if I was taken ill. Good to Go was one of them. Check your policies carefully folks.

Thanks for that info bobby, did not realise this myself

I have annual cover with my bank account .When I was diagnosed with copd was worried if the cover was Ok for me. Phoned company and I was covered. It seems to me that it depends on how many inhalers you use. Had got quotes from companies who say they specialise in heath related travel insurance but found them really expensive . They seemed to give my a quote for insurance and then added on an extra health related fee which when added together was quite expensive.

Hi Squeaky, do you know if Aviva will cover you if you use ambulatory oxygen, did you have to go through pre existing medical conditions for the severe COPD what sort of questions did they ask, have a good holiday, Gilliann .
