Bullus emphysema and inserting a one way valve

Specialist said last week that the bulla was distorting my diaphragm and lungs, and increasing the fibrosis. Anyone know about these one-way valves and the dangers of them, please?

Hello Cuddy,

I had valves fitted in Feb 2012. For me it was a huge success, I got my life back. I've written about the operation and my experience of it.

Hi, I have just been denied these valves because I dont have emphysema! My consultant went to a meeting to fight my case but no luck. I am 50 with severe copd and my lungs are severely hyperinflated, now I just wait and see what else could be done. So happy for you johnwr and cuddy hope you have more luck than me. Xx

My consultant has put me forward for this operation, i have to go for an EEG tomorrow morning i imagine it is to check that my heart is able to cope with the operation.

I had never heard of this until two weeks ago when he mentioned it.
