Do keep trying. I know how difficult it is, I've been there. It was about 6 years ago when the consultant told me I would die if I didn't give up, I haven't smoked since. I stopped through sheer fear. Have you thought about asking your gp, what the consequences will be if you don't stop. It just may work for you. Good luck. xx

My consultant was pretty blunt too !! I had stopped and started 10 plus times and then finally realised I was kidding myself !! The stress you feel will still be there if you smoke or you give up, you have to give up for you! that's how I did it, I finally got selfish and thought about me wanting to stick around. Push all your stress to one side and take time for you, I enjoyed going on walks alone or with company

Hi Carling, Welcome from me, if you do stop (and I seriously hope you do) it will help your health no end you might no thinks so at the time some people develop reactions like coughs some don't everyone's different, I was the same tried everything but back to the packet every time, 10 years ago i started in a no smoking building and thought to myself why not, Set myself up all the levels of patches, chewing gum, sweets, must have spent about £80,00 at least then 3 days later I did not even have a patch on, I'm glad i did 4 years later i was diagnosed with PF the GP said that i would have much worse if i had not stopped.Go For It Carling we are all with you I mean that 24/7 any time you reach for the packet come on and read some of the posts.Mattcass

Boo Boo's advice hit it on the head. In addition, you have inserted smoking into your life to deals with pauses in your thoughts and activities. Something else must go there, at least until you get over the addiction 9first) and the habituation (second). I found that having a glass of ice with me was a great way to keep my mouth moist and busy for the first week, or so. For your urges, close you eyes, relax, take 10 deep and slow breaths, count them. The urge will be gone. .

Great advice.

Hi carling it is so hard to stop smoking isn't it? I am struggling with this myself so I completely understand where you are at. All I can say is keep trying and one day you will succeed. As I will too. Good luck with it.

Hi Carling I used to enjoy a ciggy with a coffee after a meal I stopped with champix and for a long time I would get up after a meal and wash up and take myself away from the urge to light up my old man has ordered one of them e-cigs they contain nicotine but nothing else I wish you all the best of luck when you have lung problems the decision is taken away from you.

Totally agree with you onamission! The choice is taken away! Or should be! I was a person that loved a ciggie! But they didn't love me!! When you are told you have a lung disease, it was game over on the ciggie front! I wanted to live a few more years yet.

Hi Carling. You are trying to do a very hard thing. You have to convince yourself how important it is to give up. You can do it. Take one day at a time and try to say to yourself whenever you want one. No! My health is more important than that. Go and do something that will keep your hands busy. Maybe eat a peppermint or some sugarfree gum. Anything to take your mind off it. I have done it so I know how hard it is. Every time youhave just one you are prolonging the agony. Hope that helps. I think I might not be here if I was smoking when I had a really bad asthma attack. I had given up a few years before. I was however working with sheepskin and the dust is what caused it.

Yes it is hard, but you realy have to feel you want to do it.Dont think of giving something up,its all about finding a new you, & gaining control.

Dont have any in the house,so you cant reach out for them!! Have plenty of nibblies, that you fancy.Lots of juice & water, to get the nicotine out of your system.

Good luck, let us know how you go x
