Hang in there and take care. You will get some proper pain relief when you get to hospital. I always have a supply of codeine phosphate ( prescriptive only) for when usual pain killers don't work. Good luck.
I've had cracked ribs so I'm sympathising. It's excruciating when you move or breath too deep etc.
I also get pleurisy which is a very very similar pain. Please go to your doc (they can rule out whether or not it's pleurisy from listening through stethoscope, it makes a rasping sound) .
You really need to see doc though, if you have cracked a rib from mooching in the boot then you probably need a bone density test.
Take care, cracks/ fractures take 6 weeks to heal.
I really hope it's not a cracked rib. I leaned over to cut a lavender bush and rolled my ribs. The pain was excruciating. I went on holiday after and I said to my Husband if it didn't improve I would have to go to Hospital. I didn't go but I was in severe pain. I also have felt it a few times in the years since. I think it's as bad as cracking your ribs. Hope you get on at out patients.
Hope you get some pain relief today. Take care. TAD xx
I cracked a rib on Monday whilst vomiting (I am on antibiotics & steroids with a chest infection and am sick within a hour of taking the pills ). The pain is worse than when I broke an ankle ! Doctor prescribed Co-codam , 30/500 which are very effective.
I have osteoporosis so subject to busting a few bones. I also have COPD and cough a little at night. I hope that I do not break another rib due to coughing. The pain is about as bad as it gets and hurts even more when taking my two huffers twice a day.
Ouch! It could of even been a rib crossover which can bruise the ribs which is as painful as a break. Many many years ago I sneezed so hard I dislocated 3 ribs out of my sternum. I dropped to the floor holding my chest and my wife thought I had a heart attack. It looked like fingers poking out my chest and my doctor pushed them back. I was sore for months. So far I have managed to break 7 ribs so I feel for you. My bones have been very strong but I have been very unlucky with accidents.
Hi there, it sounds like you have definately cracked something, I know how painful that is because I have osteoporosis and have cracked a rib in the past with coughing. When I had a bad fracture in my spine a few years ago, the only thing that took the edge of it was solpadol soluble tablets. Only thing is they are full of salt and doctors are reluctant to give you them now, I am ok as don't have high blood pressure etc. Are you on long term steroids I wonder?, as they take the minerals out of your bones and actually cause osteoporosis. My consultant agrees with me that I don't take steroids long term, maybe a short blast for 5 days if urgently needed but apart from that no. Please let us know how you get on...
Hi Billy, ouch, I feel for you. I had a cracked rib many years ago, even turning a tap on was excruciating. I have osteoporosis now so dread it happening again, I do hope you get some relief soon. Best wishes, Sadie xx
sounds as if you have cracked hope you get some pain killers for it i know how painfull it can be i cracked a few ris in jan and only just got better , they still ache when its cold hope you get better soon hugs x x
get medical help if it is cracked ribs that's fine , painful (very ) but they do heal .x ray should tell you that ( I broke three and it is painful I could not lie down for a fortnight so best of luck.
Whew....broken ribs are no fun at all. I had several broke at one time, along with a lung infection. Slept standing up the first few nights (leaning over my bed). X-Rays are not consistent with picking up a recent fracture, so they are hard to trust. Trust yourself if you have pain and be persistent with your doctor to give you medications to stay out of pain....especially if you have lung disease and need to cough to clear your lungs. You tend to NOT want to breath at all with those painful rib breaks. It does get better, Good Luck!
Dont put up with any pain, its just not worth it, I used to do that tut tut, but I know better now, I also have osteporosis and bone probs, please go see your doc. Joan x
its so easy done hun prob your ribs and if so nothing they will do pain is just dreadful happened to me severel times have you osteoporosis as bones could be weak perhaps ask doc if u can tk calcium tabs
I do sympathise and hope you have got some pain relief by now. When I did something similar I was prescribed Co-codamol and in time they did heal ok. The only good thing about this misfortune was that I realised that the Co-codamol had also suppressed my cough so I now take half a tablet each night and it helps me get some sleep. Hope you feel well soon.
Really sorry, Billy. I cant add to the excellent advice you have had but just to hope you will get comfortable really soon. Annieseed xx
