why do i feel worse as i stopped smoking
Do not start smoking again you will start to improve I'm sure you will.
Hello skye, rick is right you will improve, believe us, it takes time and is very gradual. Do you think you need to build up your general health and immune system? I let myself get very low when I gave up smoking but gradually improved my general health and now haven't had chest infection for 10 months and that was the first one for over a year.
It is great that you have given up smoking. Please don't go back to it. You will feel better in time. I have heard that when you stop and the lungs clear the gunk out there is more chance of getting a chest infection in the short term. But if you don't stop the damage will get much worse over the long term and this is what's most important. Well done for packing the evil weed in.
Smoking actually helps to clear out the lungs (whilst slowly killing you and causing most of the problems in the first place!) by irritating and causing coughing. When you stop it often feels worse for a while because the lungs are bunged up with mucous. However, once the mucous has been cleared, the benefits of stopping smoking can be realised. Hang on.
As recommended stay away from the cigs, help boost your immune system by eating well. Fresh fruit and vegetables, lean protein, fish, chicken, turkey etc. Drink plenty of water to help the body flush out the excess toxins, these are those that have built up from the years of smoking and these are those that are making you feel ill.
I recommend oranges too, but loads of fresh fruit and vegetables, for the vitamin and mineral content.
Do check back with your doctor if your symptoms have been getting progressively worse.
Think future health, don't smoke. A few more weeks down the line things will be much much better if you take good care of yourself now.
Best wishes and here's to a healthier you.
