I am finding it more and more difficult financially to keep my car on the road but there is no public transport from the village where I live and anyway I cannot walk more than about 30 metres (COPD). I think I have been told in the past that I need to be on some sort of other assistance benefit before I can qualify for car assistance.
Can anyone help me with information a... - Lung Conditions C...
Can anyone help me with information about assistance from government sources for motobility .
you should be applying personal indepdance payment ex dla you should tell them you can only walk about 20 metres as this is the new limit.if you are awarded the enhanced rate you can then apply for a new mobility car you wont need need to worry about keeping your car on the road as all you have to put in your car is fuel that will be your only expence
Thanks so much
Hate to disappoint you Eve, but I think your age may be against you - if you are on satate pension I don't think the mobility stuff applies. Certainly if you have a motability car before 61 you carry on with it, but you can't apply for one after that. I'd talk to the BLF helpline........
It is now PIP for those of working age. For those who are retired it used to be Attendance Allowance. Not sure if this has changed for PIP also or not. Would definitely ring BLF helpline. Good luck.
you can claim up to 65 years if you are awarded before 65 you can continue to have your car and pip till you die. if you only claim after 65 you wont get pip or car you will only get attendance allowance
Thanks everyone for responses
I applied at age 62 and got mobility element of dla...so cam use that for my car or for mobility one.
I guess most of us will have to start living without mobility allowance soon.
I decided to get a four year load from Motability a year ago.
My reasoning was that the Government say I will be reassessed even though I have a lifetime award ( sounds like I'm a movie star lol ) in 2015 and doubtless like most, I will have my allowance disappear.
But at least I will own 75% of a car.
