Lung Consultant

I went to see my lung consultant on Wednesday and we had a good old talk as to why I keep on Blacking Out. He suggested that I put on a 7 day heart monitor to see what is going on. I got a call this morning can you come down today at 1400 to get the monitor fitted. Strange enough I have an appointment at 1400 to see the urologist, no worry was the reply come down after your appointment. I feel that there still is some good points with the NHS.

i have known my consultant for a good few year now since I was diagnosed with COPD and Bronchiectasis . He lives a couple of villages away from me and whether you see him in the village or in the corridor of the hospital he will stop and have a chat. One true gentleman. In fact the Senior Consultant who is a woman stopped for a chat and her first words hello Graeme how are you keeping. I am very fortunate to have two caring chest consultants and I feel very privileged and honoured to have both of the as my doctors.

I agree - wish I didn't have these nasty diseases, but convinced that I am getting the best treatment possible on the NHS. Where would we be without it? My mother used to tell me that when my older brother was a baby that he was quite poorly, but she didn't have the half crown (older members will remember these) to call the doctor. Luckily my aunt lent her the necessary - he really was very ill with pneumonia! Grateful that ,as a young mother, I never had to think about whether I could afford to call the doctor.

You are so right about that Maggie. it's dreadful to think what would happen to sick folk without the national health service. I am on a really expensive drug for my Aspergillus, it's so expensive it's the hospital that dispenses it. my consultant had to get permission from the heallh board to give me it. I feel very grateful. M

I have nothing but praise for the NHS too, and I must admit Dumfries Infirmary ( Hospital ) must be one of the best. I have used this Hospital many many times since 2007 and am very grateful. I seem quite lucky with my Respiratory team and Rheumatology team also.(And any other teams I have needed.) Good luck with everything Berwick. Cheryl
