oohh poppins all will be ok as people have said to queenmig ring the blf by clicking on the red ballon in the top right hand corner of this page.not sure if they are there weekends but talk to us here in the mean time there are lots here with copd at all different stages dont be shy everybody here is housetrained lol :) a very friendly forum of all sorts of lung conditions.ive had it a while and at long last battling giving the ciggies the old heave ho hard but strangly empowering at times so goodgame. its early days and scarey but these good people here will definately be able to help you on your new journey.Jane

ha,ive got that,am ok,did they say what stage your at,im mod,i don't cry as the shock as gone, thers nothing to do but live, and we will live, lot of help on hear for you, bernice,x

This is a shock at first, poppins and queenmig, but once you starting finding out more, you will start to get to know the condition. I think you both need to talk to someone. Alright to look on the web but better to talk - try the BLF nurse. Click on the red balloon top right hand corner for the tel.no.

So much to find out to help you both. Plus the helpful people in this forum. Have heart, you will adapt to the COPD>

welcome Queenmig i understand how you feel i remember when my consultant told me fairly matterfactly and didnt really say to much more than that.as i left bewildered thinking this is an oaps disease and was arranging my funeral in my head.confused feeling very unnecessary!! that was over 20 years ago and let me tell you there is much life left in this old dog .once you come to grips with it all ,your life will continue much the same, coming here will definately help such a friendly lot with a wealth of experience from the horses mouth so to speak .see you soon Janexx

My heart goes out to you both. I remember when I was diagnosed the consultant didn't give me much information. I came home and went online and almost scared myself to death. I couldn't believe I had this illness I was so frightened. I did find a similar site to this it was an American site and it was there I started to learn about copd. The first thing I learned was copd is not a death sentence. I learned that if I stopped smoking, took regular exercise, had a healthy diet etc I could slow down the progression of the disease. That was almost 4 years ago, I stopped smoking the day after I was diagnosed, I exercise when I can, and my diet has gone to pot but I'm doing ok. Ask any questions you want there is nearly always someone around to help.

Hi queenmig and Poppins, feeling shocked and bewildered is where most of us started. It is also difficult to explain to families how you feel as there are dark, lonely moments. Finding the lovely people here has helped me so much because you can ask people about their medication experience and disease progression. We also have a laugh and learn from each other how to manage our new circumstances. To me it felt like grieving but now I am mre optimistic. There are some truly inspirational people on here so come on in and meet them. Good luck. :-) :-) Alison

hi please remember you are still the same person as you were two days ago just with more knowledge of your condition. try and stay calm and no rush decisions. You will have good and bad days. My mother was diagnosed at 14 with lungs that in those days they described as being like paper. They said she would not be able to do anything in life. She married had two children, worked part time until she was 62 and cycled to work for 20 years, mangeda large garden and went dancing and bellringing every week. So having a positive mental outlook does wonders. Take careX

Hi Queenmig,

We know exactly what your going through, I have been diagnosed 20 months and if I hadn't have stumbled on here, heavens knows what state I would be in now because I was losing my mind through it running riot with doom and gloom. I'm much better now.

The people on here are wonderful so you have come to the right place. You'll get great advice and fantastic support off truly caring people.

You won't believe me now, but, the panic does ease as acceptance comes when you learn more about the disease.

Casper. xx

How are you feeling? I went back to work today after another fortnight off with a chest infection. i must say my boss and work colleagues are so supportive and they really try to help.

i have been feeling a bit down but it generally passes when I feel a bit better and can do more. Do something impulsive tomorrow, smile at a stranger they always smile back! have a good day!
