They say there is a connection between your lungs and skin because they both breath, so i'm thinking that my very sensitive skin may have something to do with my bronchiectasis.

Does anyone who has bronchiectasis suffer with sensitive skin. I always have had a problem, i'm a red head. Now it's worse than ever.
This made me thoughtful. Some years ago, I had psoriasis which stayed for a long time. I couldn't work out the cause. I was told that it could be stress, but I wasn't stressed with anything particular;
But I had taken a lot of antibiotics over the years for chest infections, tonsillitis which meant obvious infections, which could affect the skin. I read this in an article, Worth doing a bit of research. You could visit Health Unlock British Skin Foundation.
Thanks for that annieseed, i'll check bsf.
My skin used to be quite well behaved until approx 20 yrs ago but the rot set in when Vitaligo developed. Had a good many unexplained rashes since then as my skin is now very sensitive, just have to lightly scratch it and a rash appears.
Only found out a few month ago that I have Bronchiectasis so hadn't yet made a connection but with several auto-immune conditions to my name I'm no stranger to anti-bi's & they've been the main suspect, up til now that is.
Hi mustcarryon, I have copd and my skin has been sensitive for quite a while, just drying myself hurts, I bought a toweling robe, and just pop it on when I step out of the bath it only takes a few minutes to dry yourself and no rubbing your skin it seems to work for me
i have Bronchiectasis and had very bad Eczema when i was a child going to the clinic nearly everday for treatment, fortunately grew out of it by the age of eleven but i still have very sensitive skin.
Thanks for all your responses, very helpful indeed. Silly me I forgot to mention my skin problem is on my face and the doctor said it's rosacea. Trying to find a good moisturiser and foundation has been a nightmare. Although Liz Earl has been the most suitable, but hasn't stopped it completely. I just can't understand why I have it and was wondering if it has anything to do with bronchiectasis.
have bronchiectasis and very dry sensitive skin I have been very well advised to drink at least 3 ltrs. of water a day,I know, its a lot,but I'm trying my best and little by little its working.I also have rosacea on my face,(and yes its awful) after many many years of using a lighter coloured foundation to cover the unsightly blemishes,I plucked up the courage to pop into a larger branch of Boots at the cosmetics counter,a very lovely young lady advised me to try clinique foundation to combat redness, she applied some on the worst part of my face (top part of my cheeks and bridge of nose) all I can say is WOW.Its not cheap (£23) but believe me it is so worth every penny. Its a very light foundation not thick or heavy at all.just so smooth and natural looking.if only it had been around when I was young I would have had so much more confidence. My advice,"try it".You will feel so much better.and try to drink more water.xxx
Hello mustcarryon, I also had been suffering with really sensitive skin, but in a visit to USA started using Aveeno Ultra Calming foaming cleanser and also Aveeno Ultra Calming moisturiser, have to order from Amazon now, but for me I find its been brilliant and am reluctant to try anything different.
I don't have bronchiectasis, but I do have emphysema. I have always had a sensitive skin and found the sensitivity increases at the time the seasons change, my skin reacts to air pollutions and temperatures interestingly so do my lungs.
I don't know if sensitive skin and lung health is connected, psoriasis and dermatitis I believe is an illness of the nervous system, where as lung and breathing ill health is a illness of the respiratory system, but its interesting what you say about the connection.
The other connection is the inflammatory side, there are so many diseases that are inflammatory its all food for thought.
To help with skin eruptions and soreness of the face and hands I use aloe vera from the body shop, it is very soothing and calming when the skin is sore and red. For the dermatitis and psoriasis I use the bog standard prescribed cream betnovate thankfully I don't have too much problem with this now.
Interesting post mustcaryon.
Best wishes BC
I have bronchiectasis. I often have episodes of urticaria and used over the counter anti-histamines. I can't use these now as I have a heart problem. I was recommended a great cream by a friend. It is called Aqueous Calamine Cream and it is really cheap! My rash is at its itchiest at night when I am settling - I cover the areas with this cream and it takes the itch right out and within 15/20mins the itching has subsided. By morning all has gone.
It may not work for you but at around £2 a tub it's worth a try. x
Hi happyfeet59
Thanks for your recommendation. My problem is just my face, it's rosacea. I have tried Aqueous Calamine Cream, In fact my Doctor gave me a prescription for it. Like everything else, it was great everywhere on my body but not my face. It's facial cleanser and moisturiser that is my problem. At this moment in time i'm finding Liz Earl isn't too bad. I hope AC continues to work for you.
Yes ive very fair, sensitive skin and rosacea.have severe bronchiectasis with multiple complex lung diseaes.i think theres a connection too.i exfoliate gently, moisurise massively and drink loads of water
Hi, I have bronchiectasis & my skin is slightly sensitive. Since I’ve started using E45 emollient shower stuff etc, it’s been fine. If you do find a connection let us all know
