..My mum has grade 1V empheysema and is on 24 hour oxygen. She takes phyllocontin twice daily and has all the usual inhalers etc...She has recently been troubled with a soreness / ache within her head at the back ....slightly more to the right. She is struggling at the moment with no energy and normally she can cope but this headache is getting her down. Has anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions as to the cause? I am worried it is linked to how her body is dealing with the oxygen.Thank you for any comments Jane

Thank you Tad x I will give them a call x

Hi Jane, could this pain be swollen tender glands at the back of the head, (what was once referred to as the knowledge bumps area) the base of the scull at the back of the head just above the neck.

I've had tenderness in this area after a migraine headache, sore to the touch. Aching in this area could be associated with swollen lymph glands which can be a sign of infection also.

Check with helpline as suggested and also your Mum's doc, it is something that can be relating to one of the drugs she is taking, or something else entirely. Always best to get these things checked out professionally to be sure.

Hope your Mum is feeling better soon.

Best wishes BC

I would suggest you contact her respiratory team as she could need her oxygen re-assessed. I had headaches because my oxygen was too high & I was retaining CO2. I was reassessed by Lung function clinic who did blood gases & then reduced my oxygen after which the headaches went away.

Best wishes

Jo :-)

Hello Jane

I'm sorry that you Mother has been suffering from headaches as well as everything else.

I don't doubt that you have asked her if she has banged her head. I had a spate of headaches (and I agree that a long term headache can really get you down) and I tried lots of things. In the end, I changed my pillows (I have two) on my bed and found that it seemed to be my old pillows which were causing the headaches.

I'm in agreement with Tad and BC though - I should get your Mother's GP involved.

Good luck and best wishes

Love and hugs

Annec
