I suffer with an awful furry tongue and am constantly brushing my teeth and tongue to the extent of now having a sore tongue. Is this furry stuff due to meds,? is it oral thrush? can I do anything to get rid of it.Its really making me feel quite ill.( I think it also gives me bad breath.)

Hi fishtail It is probably the inhalers. Always give your mouth a thorough rinse after using them. Hope this helps.

If you are taking a variety of medication it is probably best to check with your doctor or chemist as they should know which medication has what side effects. But as Bobby says, rinsing after using an inhaler is good advice.

I am on a maintenance dose of prednisilone too and my tongue is discoloured. I do rinse my mouth and brush my tongue and eat plain yogurt, but nothing makes a difference. The dentist says I don't have thrush, and it does get a bit better when I am on antibiotics.

ask your dr for daktarin oral gel(orange flavour is nicer) sortied my tounge out in a few days ,

Hi fishtail, the last time that happened to me it was a prescribed drug from the doctor before I had a lung condition. From experience I would say its one of the tablets prescribed that is causing the reaction of furry tongue. If its oral thrush you have then its likely to be one of the inhalers. I think you need to talk with your doctor about these symptoms, it may be just a change in medication that is required. Check with the Helpline also for their views and advice on this problem.

Hope you get things sorted.

You may be making your tongue sore with all the brushing. If it is oral thrush it's easy fixed I've had it a couple of times and my gp prescribed Mycrostain (sp) works very quickly.

Whenever I have a medical question and before I am able to get so see my own doctor, I go to the Mayo Clinic web site. The Mayo is one of the best in the word, just google Mayo Clinic but do see your doctor also, perhaps rinsing your mouth with water after taking meds, I have to after I use Symbicort (Canadian meds). Good luck.
