Sometimes I wonder if I have half the brain I was born with.
I'm on quite a high dose of Warfarin (because of four DVTs and four PEs in four years) and I know that it takes quite a long time for any bleed to stop.
Why then when I find a bit of loose skin on my lip do I pull it?!?!! I mean, I know that if I pull the loose skin and it takes off some live skin then I am going to bleed for ages.
Tonight, I pulled a bit of loose skin on my lip and an hour later it is still bleeding.
Perhaps I don't have half the brain I was born with. I am such a prat sometimes.

Too right that it was a bit daft. I'd like to say that I won't do it again but I have no doubt that I will do it again.

Awww Annec, don't be so hard on yourself, hope that bleed stops real soon, I wonder about some ice on it, although I wouldn't want you getting frost bite, wrap the ice in some cling film and just make sure you don't get long red icicles forming.
Go careful if you try the ice on it. Or maybe you have some icecream to put on it
I don't really like ice cream. I think my dislike of it started when I had my tonsils out at the age of five. I was given ice cream in hospital and was told that it would help heal my throat. Ice cream and blood is not nice at all.
When you say high dose Pepsi what do you mean?. Surely the relevant number is the target INR. I'm on 8 mcg per day with a target range of 2.5 but I'm a big (fat) bloke so if you're normally proportioned you could well be on a lower dose. The only real problem I have with bleeding is with tooth extraction where one bled for 48 hours and made me quite sick, and shaving which is a daily hazard.
My target is 3.5. I have three brown tablets on 5 days and 4.5 tablets on two days. I'm on Warfarin for life. If I develop another DVT I've been advised that an op to put an 'umbrella' over my lungs would be the way forward. I've had enough of operations so I'll stick with what I'm told should be my dosage of Warfarin.
I'm due at the dentist in September so I'm hoping that my teeth are still sound. I don't shave so I'm OK on that front.
Yes I'm also on warfarin for life Annec after one massive PE which put me in hospital for 5 weeks and also due to recurrent DVTs. The little brown tablets are 1mcg so it sounds like I'm on approx double your dose despite you having a higher target INR - no doubt due to our relative sizes. Never heard about the umbrella op, did they tell you what that entailed? Good luck at the dentist, I really dread going there. The info about the lack of a brazilian was a bit too much info but good to see you retain a great sense of humour. Good luck for the future.
I don't know much about the 'umbrella' thing - as soon as the Surgeon mentioned it me me I was thinking 'You're having a laugh!'. I did have a look on Google and found out what it was about but I didn't go into it too much. I thought that if a clot was stopped going to a lung then where would it go? Heart? If I have to have it done then I will have it done.
My last DVT was absolutely huge. I was discharged after a lung op in Plymouth on a Friday night (even though I couldn't breath or stand up!!) and my husband called 999 on the Saturday morning - I was taken to Treliske in Truro and kept in for two weeks. My legs don't match even after two years (lol).
If every you end up in The Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske in Truro you will love it (I can't believe I said that - hopefully you won't end up there).
Can't say I'm a fan of any hospital, always want to get out as soon as possible, but you certainly wouldn't want to spend any time in Queens Hospital, Burton on Trent, or Glenfield Hospital, Leicester.
