Hi there I am going to Cyprus in Augu... - Lung Conditions C...
Hi there I am going to Cyprus in August. Newly diagnosed COPD one year ago does anyone have any holiday insurance suggestions ?
We took out worldwide cover for three weeks at Christmas through Holiday Extras, as we were going to Canada we felt that the £200 premium was quite reasonable. Enjoy your holiday.
I used to get my insurance through the Post Office when I was lucky enought to get abroad.
That was in the earlier days of my copd and it was ok if you were not on more than 2 inhalers the premiums where the same as a normal person. Anything over that you had to contact their medical screening and they would give you a quote.
I'm pretty sure one of the members here have mentioned previously that they had a great deal with the RAF - if you have or have had anyone in the forces, you can get a good rate.
Slade is right. Check the small print very carefully as some won't pay out if a close relation is taken ill prior to your holiday. Obviously a wife or husband is a close relation.
regards, Bobby
I have used All Clear for a couple of years now and find this is great and by far the cheapest.
thanks for that
Try 'Less clicks' They seem quite good and less than £50 for a week in Europe.
I went to Cyprus last October Have had Emphysema for about 9 years never bother telling the insurance as I manage to control it and don't do anything silly.
Your insurance would not be worth anything though if you required any medical help. You have to be truthful when applying for travel insurance especially if you have a known medical condition.
I wouldn't dare risk not telling them about my Emphysema.

Hi Alice - I have just obtained insurance to go to Skiathos with Insure&go. it only cost me £6 more than someone with no health problems. It obviously depends on how good (or bad) your condition is. I have moderate COPD (emphysema). Its worth applying online just to see what the quote is - there is no oblligation to buy the policy. They might send you an odd e-mail but nothing else! One piece of advice - answer the questions truthfully! Good luck!
Thank you all so much for your answers very helpfull indeed
Never mentioned it. Ask me no questions...
Tbh if you were only diagnosed last year how bad is it? In my case it was after a chest infection and since then I've had flu and pneumo jabs.It was highly unlikely that I would have been ill on the holiday, I knew my limits plus had mild COPD.
On a roll, the heat could be a problem, stay in the shade and always have water. Check that any walking tours do not involve hills or high altitude. The only part of my hol when forced into a coffee bar (such a hardship) was where these factors applied. They would also apply for some people without COPD
Hope you have a great time.
I have mentioned it to my walking group, because it is quite challenging for me. 3 miles a a brisk pace. COPD cannot be reversed but you need a strong heart to help.
