How much danger are we in when we try to treat ourselves through the internet. For a start we only have a limited knowledge of our disease, whether it is Emphysema, Asthma, Bronchitis or one of the other ones that I can’t spell. Secondly, many internet articles are hopelessly out of date and don’t reflect the latest treatments. Add to that the fact that we have no idea who really wrote them. It could be a top lung specialist or my sister’s dog. We have no way of knowing.
By all means swan around the web and get an idea of the way things are but don’t treat what you read as gospel. I have come across articles 5, 6 and 7 years old and a lot of progress has been made in that time. Many web sites are just covert advertising by drug companies, so always get the very latest information from the BLF, your GP or the respiratory team treating you.

Excellent point Bobby. As a rule of thumb, I go for the web site officially for the condition I need to know about as there is, surprisingly, (sarcasm creeping in) the most information there, well at least I should ruddy well hope so.
Me too, but I also prefer to use those sites situated in the UK as our drug approval is different to other countries.
Very very well said Bobby I have noticed a lot of copy and paste jobs on here and you do have to wonder about some of them, as some of the advice is out dated or not proven. I am sure a lot of the time its from people trying to be helpful, but always best to listen to BLF or doctors as there is a lot of rubbish on the net. really good topic thanksxxxxxxx Love Julie xxx
When my car broke down, I took it to a mechanic. I apply that same principle to my healthcare ...

Agree with all of the above. I have to admit I prefer British sites - prefer the layout etc.
I think it was Mark Twain who said "Don't read too many medical books or you may die of a misprint"
