I have severe copd and was told recently during x ray that I have long lungs.I struggle to sit comfortably in the car ,at home or at my desk....seems as if they are always squashed and I worry when I go out to hairdressers or for a meal etc in case I panic with this.Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do about it please ???

Hello My Peppa

I have 'long' lungs too. I have not ever had a problem with my long lungs - I just have to tell the X-ray people about it so that hey turn the X-ray board the other way.

Like you, COPD is one of my problems but I don't think the length of my lungs make a difference. Please don't worry about your long lungs - it's quite normal. If you worry then you put yourself in the way of having a panic attack.

If your have problems sitting at your desk or sitting in the car then there must be some other reason.

What I do about my 'long' lungs is nothing - I ignore the fact because I don't think that they make any difference to my COPD.

Don't worry about it at all My Peppa - we (you and I) must have been born with 'long' lungs!

Love and hugs

Annec

I too have long lungs and have to inform Xray. I have never had a problem with them and don't even now that I have COPD. Maybe they help as I can breath in more air ?

I have long lungs too..just have to say when I have an x-ray.

When I have a chest infection sometimes it is difficult to sit back in a chair because where my back touches it sets me off coughing. No problem otherwise

My husband hasn't been diagnosed with "long lungs" but has suffered with COPD for over 8 years. He finds sitting uncomfortable much of the time. We have had to get a new chair for the lounge as he can no longer sit in armchairs and sofas. It is becoming a problem when we go out he has to carefully choose where he sits and hopes that he can breath! As it is he is awful after he has eaten anyway!!! Ah well, told him to get himself a walking stick that turns into a little stool which he could conveniently pull out! Take care. TAD xx

Hi everyone well maybe long lungs do not cause this feeling but it is not nice feeling uncomfy sitting...maybe muscles are stretched from coughing a lot as well and if I eat a big meal I too feel uncomfy...hard going when I have been told to put on weight !!!

I have long lungs too. Always had to tell x-ray dept as women's x-ray plates were too short so I had to have two X-rays, double radiation. They told me this doesnt happen now x-rays are digital.

I think all internal organs are more scrunched up when we sit, i find it worse in the car.

Full stomach puts pressure on the lungs too so smaller, more frequent meals are best.

Thanks 02Trees I often feel that the lungs are too big and pushing to get out !! Had a bad night last night could not sit, stand or relax at all felt as if there was a belt around me...goes away when I lie down in bed !! Wondered if it is muscles from coughing and the fact that stomach is empty cause in morning feels much better?? Also thinking about it my echo was incomfy due to hard lungs, not spongy any more and they do not give !! x
