The BLF Helpline would be the best for information on that probably, at the very least they could point you in a more specific direction.
Their number is : 03000 030 555.
If the NHS finished you on ill health i don't understand why you didn't get a pension .
I worked for the education dept the pensioned me off on ill health grounds .Cant your union help?
Without going too deep into this, there were some changes made to prohibit private pension funds being access by anyone under 55, it used to be 50. As mentioned already, call the BLF helpline and see what they can do to advise.
That's strange Gordon do different areas have different rules? my daughters friend age 45 has just been pensioned off on ill health .
It was a Government thing from what I remember, I was looking at early pension release to try and get a better income for myself and was, at the time, under 55 so was refused on those grounds.
I had not looked at this until today but the official info is at hmrc.gov.uk/pensionschemes/... - this thread has prompted me to investigate for myself as I've now gone past 55 and I could probably access the old scheme I was in.
I was 48 when i finished work ,i was sent for a medical by the local authority the doctor said i was too ill to work and i was awarded a pension on ill health grounds , plus was given 7years extra giving me a total of 34 years BUT that was 23 years ago.
I do know you have to be 55 if you want to retire early but not through ill health and then your local authority have to agree because my daughter has just been down that road and was refused because she's only 51
Hope you have some luck, read the West Yorkshire Pension Fund website as far as i know public service pensions are all the same Take
care love Dorothy xx
Seems early retirement may be being confused with retirement on health grounds. You need some expert advice.
Get the CAB and go back to the NHS and ask the occupational people to be involved - fight it. Ask for a written explanation as to why you were turned down so you can fight each point in turn. Send in details of consultants and GP and ask for a report to be considered. Dont let them get away with it. If you were determined to be too ill to continue work then you are entitled to better treatment than this.
