clenil discontinued?

my pharmacy have told me they won’t be ordering any more of my Clenil Modulite 200 as it’s been discontinued. I’m really panicking as I’ve been on this medication for 25 years and my asthma is well controlled and the thought of changing meds after 25 years is making me feel like I’m going to have an actual breakdown 😢

The pharmacist at my surgery seems to think this isn’t the case but if the pharmacies stop stocking it ???

Dont panic. I had been on same for over 20 years and the consultant changed me to Fostair . I also take Incruse. Fostair has smaller particles . I find it very good . No issues.

The manufacturer of Clenil are currently at stage III trials of a low carbon footprint inhaler of Clenil. So the once the licence is approved, they'll stop manufacturing the old, high carbon footprint inhaler in favour of the low carbon footprint version. See press release dated 4 April 2024 in link, chiesi.uk.com/press-releases

Sounds like Ventolin vs Salamol... the new salamol was awful for me, didn't work at all and led to my asthma worsening and feeing like I had no solution for any asthma attacks. I am still able to get ventolin so I hope this isn't a similar scenario, where the supposedly cleaner greener new product doesn't actually do the job

GSK, who make Ventolin, are at stage 3 trials of their lower carbon Ventolin inhaler. If successful this could lead to regulatory submissions in 2025, so maybe a licence and hitting the market in 2026? So manufacturers are reacting to the NHS cutting down on high carbon footprint inhalers. I know the change in propellant isn't good news for many asthmatics. But I assume that GSK will produce a better product than the generic Salamol.

I've been on clenil too and am too scared to swap to anything else for various reasons. I have an inate distrust now and i find this very hard to comprehend. I won't be happy swapping either. Having asthma is terrifying when it's bad so to be on somethng that works... and then read things about the alternatives that you don't like the sound of... i'm not gonna handle this well

That’s exactly how I feel…dealing with too many other health issues right now to come to terms with a huge upset like this. I rely heavily on clenil and have done for many years.
