peak flow 180 to 250

I’ve become allergic to my indoor cat.

I’m on a preventative and puffer.

The cat can’t go outside as she hasn’t been spade.

Should I rehome? I have a good potential home lined up

Thanks

B

All I can say is that I would definitely rehome, especially as you’ve found her a nice place already. In my experience, if you keep exposing yourself to a known allergen it just gets worse. One of these days you could have a life-threatening attack. I would love a pet but can’t tolerate furry animals of any sort 😔

Just to say I agree with janedivney. You have done really well to find a potential home for the cat, just make sure you have checked out the new owners.

It's hard to say anything about your peak flow without knowing how it relates to your personal best/normal. Peak flow isn't an absolute good/bad number for everyone . It depends on what's normal for you and naturally varies depending on your height, age, and sex, plus other factors like whether you've ever smoked or had lung surgery, or played sport at a high level or a wind instrument.

And it's just one measurement of your asthma - if you're struggling with symptoms then that still needs attention, even if your peak flow isn't too bad compared with your best.

Do you have an asthma action plan? If you think your peak flow is dropping from what's normal for you and/or you're having symptoms - which it sounds like you are - then you should ask to see your GP or asthma nurse as soon as possible.

I don’t have an asthma plan

If you don't have a plan, then go on your symptoms and/or peak flow compared to normal. If you're needing to use your blue reliever more and/or your peak flow has dropped quite a bit from your normal then make an urgent appointment with your GP or asthma nurse.

thanks would an air purifier and deep clean of the house help? Grasping at straws

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this - it's horrible having to weigh up whether or not to rehome a much-loved pet, but if you are absolutely sure it's the cat causing the reaction, then I don't think you have much choice. While you might be able to manage to share a house with a cat if someone else were caring for it (keeping it to another room, and using stringent cleaning methods and air purifiers etc), this is your cat and it sounds like you have a close bond with it. You'd have to keep the cat at more than arms' length to avoid being triggered by it, and that's not fair on your cat, who won't understand why you are having to be distant. But at the same time, you can't risk your own life by continuing to interact that closely with the cat.

Sometimes, the most loving thing we can do for our pets is to know when it is the right time to give them up. If you have a trusted person lined up to take your cat, then I think you should go with that - at least that way, you can get updates on the cat's life, if that is helpful for you. (If you don't actually know this person and have found them through an ad or they are a friend of a friend, then please consider rehoming through a charity instead - my last rescue dog was rehomed to a 'good home' via a small ad and ended up being horribly abused before she came to me, so only ever rehome privately to someone you 100% trust)

Not in the long term. You can't be perpetually deep cleaning.

Spay/ neuter. Cat grass, quality cat food.

If u are sure u are having symptoms from The cat 🐱 : try some preventative measures first.some things to try-laundry sanitizer, lint rollers, air filters ,brushing, cat wipes, cleaning( especially vacuum) ,masks, wash hands, shower at least daily before bed. I’m sure there are more ideas out there. I’ve been around animals for decades. only one seemed to bother me. only when they tried to use my blanket I sleep with . I got their own blanket/ bed. There are also well known brands for hair ,skin, coat just for cats. like dental treats. I just give them a few after/ during brushing them.

Talk to your doctor or specialist.they have different methods and also treatment like immunotherapy. make sure it’s the actual cat u have is causing a reaction. they all produce different allergies/amounts.I’ve been allergy tested. sometimes it’s not always accurate or can change. The things I know I have bad allergies to, some people won’t avoid with me.🙄

💫 In the end the decision is yours.if u have to find a new home, please charge a re-home fee for the cats safety and your peace of mind.
