I was recently told I have a tachycardia issue which I was then told by a Dr beta blockers could help with this. However, I was also informed by another Dr that due to having Asthma I was unable to take them, even though my Asthma is very well controlled and has been for a number of years. Does anyone take Beta blockers with asthma (if so what types) and has there been any problems or associated symptoms while taking Beta blockers? Also was your Dr ok with prescribing this type of medication?

Im not to sure yet as i was being investigated for Chronic Fatigue Symptoms when they found out about the Tachycardia issue. I was told about beta blockers helping with both issues but now my other Dr seems reluctant as it could make asthma and fatigue worse. So was curious about other beta blockers and peoples experience on them. Did they not help very much?
Hi, I was diagnosed with anxiety back in 2000 and was prescribed propranolol. Many years later 2017 I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis and asthma, I was told to stop taking the beta blockers. That caused palpitations and anxiety went through the roof, so after talking to my doctor he said to stay on a reduced dose, so went down from 40mg to 10mg . I still take them now but also treated for high blood pressure. For me it may be a psychological that I need to keep taking my beta blockers. My gp and respiratory doctor are ok with me taking a low dose. It hasn't affected the asthma.
Hi, did you find that your respiratory doctor had to agree for you to be prescribed them, in order for you to have them? or did your gp just prescribe you them?
They were never taken off my prescription list. They just reduced the amount I was taking, my respiratory doctor said to stop if any anything gets worse. I think because of my anxiety issues they thought it better for me to have them.
Hi, I have been diagnosed with hart problems, Ventricular Arrhythmia, and beta blockers treat it, but GP said I cant have them as I have asthma and it is controlled well too x
During an operation in hospital to remove my appendix my heart rate rose to over 190 bpm. Subsequently a hospital doctor prescribed Bisoprolol despite me telling him I was asthmatic as well as having AF. He rejected my protest. Seven weeks of taking 2.5mg Bisoprolol daily resulted in the start of painful intermittent rashes, diagnosed as urticaria . It was diagnosed as a rare side effect of Bisoprolol. While being weaned off Bisoprolol I had a second side effect, a very sudden exacerbation of asthma. It happened within a couple of minutes. Fortunately I was in a pharmacy at the time. An ambulance was called and I stayed in hospital 3 days. I had no infection, and left the hospital with a course of prednisolone.I was taken off all beta blockers. The urticaria too 4 years of Ceterizine to stop. During those years eating some foods such as oranges and tomatoes caused rashes.
I have had AF for about 30 years. It's now permanent though asymptomatic.
That sounds so awful and scary, well thank you i think i may try and stay away from this! Did you try any alternatives to beta blockers to help with the fast heart rate?
