( prob spelt wrong ) Went to nurse this week, told her I’d came off my brown inhaler during a week in spain , weather helped me. Came back to freezing scotland and felt wheezy sore chest . Nurse did an allergy test , and gave me montekulist , to take at night . Is it worth taking , side effects bit scary too. .

Definitely worth trying.theyre a game changer 4 some people
I would give it a go - it may work for you and it may not but it's worth a try. Most nurses/drs I've met are very relaxed about trying it and coming off if it doesn't work or you get side effects.
It can cause mood problems or bad dreams in some people, but there are also many people who either find it helpful or who don't find it helpful but it doesn't give them any side effects either. I've been on it for years and found it useful though not a magic bullet - I get worse off it. I take another medication (theophylline) which causes horrible side effects in some people but not me so I stay on it.
There's a lot online about montelukast because it caused a lot of mental health problems in children and teenagers who were taking too high a dose. Not all the problems are due to that so of course you should be as careful as you would with any other medication, but it's worth bearing in mind that people who get on well with a drug, or don't have any side effects, aren't usually the ones coming online to talk about it. (They have halved the dose for children up to about 15 now and put a warning).
It might be helpful if nurses and drs acknowledged the scare stories and consider why people may be worried. I appreciate they are pressed for time, but it would probably make people more likely to take the medication if this has been discussed.
Also worth thinking about how many of those side effects occurred at the same rate as the placebo. Someone else was worried it would increase their risk of colds but when I looked at the label (I do work in this area so I use the one for professionals as it has more information), the rate of colds was similar for montelukast and placebo in trials. And it was common because it's the common cold and a lot of people get colds.
I have been on Montelukast for years. I take it daily but in the morning due to the nightmares it caused. (My respiratory nurse knows this) As part of my on going medication it seems to work.I see you stopped your brown inhaler while on holiday. I always stick to my same medication as I think it can take a while for it to get up to speed when I get home.
I hope you are feeling better
I have been on montelucast for 19 years with good results.
hi. I found some side affects at first but settled down. It did take. Few weeks to fully work so stick with it. It is game changer for me. I take it in morning to off sett the weird dreams and seems to work good. I also have fostair once a day and now hardly need rescue inhaler. Good luck with it. 😀
hi. I’ve been on montelukast for years now. Only side effect was weird dreams but that settled within a couple of months.
It’s been a game changer for me. I used to have multiple admissions to hospital but taking this I’ve reduced this down to almost 0. Only now when I get a bad chest infection so I sometimes need hospital care.
I recently ran out as forgot to collect prescription and my chest flared up within a couple of days. I’m never going to do that again.
My life has gone from not being able to keep a job due to time off sick to now working full time. And loving life.
For me it was a life changing experience but I know everyone has different experiences so I can only state my situation.
Good luck
I've been on it for a few years now. No side effects. I'm 70 years young.
I have been on it for about 3 years now and no problems, yet I am allergic to most meds! x
