Side effects Symbicort?

I was started on Symbicort recently as my asthma had flared up but I'm noticing an unpleasant symptom a bit like a viral sore throat - pain on swallowing. I notice throat irritation is a common side effect of symbicort. Has anyone else had this and, if so, does it go away after a while or would I be stuck with it as long as I am on this medication?

Same happened to me with Symbicort. I didn't know then how vital it is to rinse and gargle immediately after using it. Nowadays I'm on Fostair an mdi inhaler, I religiously rinse and gargle before as well as after inhalations for good measure. Try it to see if it helps.

My 5 year old daughter is on alot of asthma medications. Symbacort is one of them. If her pharmacy cant get it in then she uses budesonide nebulizer. The orhers are atrovent and albuterol nebulizer or mdi. No where it says to give water after giving Symbacort mdi or any mdi asthma medications

My daughter is on high dosage on mdi

Symbacort 80 / 4.5

She been on this dosage for 2 years

She hasn't gotten any side effect at all

She also takes 12 other medications

I just have to spread them out so no collision of medication will take a role

Example atrovent and Loratidine

I have to give it 3 hours apart

I got alarms on my phone when to give it

Sounds as if her asthma is quite bad. Sorry to hear that but glad to hear she is at least not getting side effects from the medication.

Definitely rinse and gargle after using your inhalers, but also double check your technique. It's so easy to slip into bad habits or not to change our technique when starting a new inhaler in order to accommodate a different design or from aerosol to dry powder.

You will find the best thing to help, is to rice your mouth out immediately after you have used your inhaler. That's what I doGet it every so often, if you can use a gargle to help. It is because it is dry powder, if it is to much of a problem, they do one you can use with a spacer, but it is still symbicort, as most drs don't prescribe the turbohaler now, but the one for use with spacer. I hope this has helped you, but request Dr to change if you struggle.
