Morning headache

Are you taking montelukast? I was fine with it for years, then suddenly it started giving me morning headaches 🤷♀️
Yes i am !!, , been on for years i have a doc appointment next week will ask her about this .,Asthma nurse said oxygen level may be dropping while im asleep which is a scary thought ,but will ask about the tablet ,thankyou.
I bet that’s the culprit. I kept asking gp about it but they just shrugged and it was only when I got referred to a severe asthma clinic they told me it was probably the montelukast & to stop it immediately. The headaches disappeared, wonderful! They aren’t harmful but apparently a sign the monte probably isn’t working very well anyway (which I’d noticed actually). It’s a horrible sharp headache too isn’t it. Only eased off 2-3hours after co-codamol & lots of strong coffee!
Everyone’s oxygen levels drop a bit during sleep. Do you snore at night? If so worth asking for a sleep study. Waking everyday with a headache isn’t normal and should be looked in to. Could be many simple reasons for it. For example needs difficulty pillows, stress or even needing new glasses. It could even be because you take paracetamol every day that it’s triggering another headache! Counter intuitive I know but does happen. Whatever having to take paracetamol every day isn’t good and should be investigated.
Don’t know about your drug side effects, but maybe also dehydration, which is the fav culprit for headaches.Good luck.X
Your oxygen levels may be dipping overnight, mine do and now use a NIV machine most nights. Ask for an overnight sleep study which will monitor your oxygen levels . I had 22 instances where my oxygen dipped. Also dehydration came cause headaches. Good luck
I think your nurse may be right
Could be oxygen levels going to low
due to asthma or other reasons
people (like me) with COPD get it too
sometimes even called a COPD headache
Not nice I am sorry you are experiencing this
Hi Nanto just this past week i have had the same every morning but found only soluble paracetamol seems to ease it but im coughing all night so this maybe the cause as. Im wakeing up through the night too with a headache.take care
I have a bad headache every morning. I have asthma but put it down to my diabetes. Why isn't life simple.
I am the same been like it for years but I have chronic rhino sinusitis all year round which is allergic to not that we know the exact allergy but the hospital said dust this in turn has caused allergic asthma as i am now affected by polluted environments and poor air quality but this has been exaggerated since having covid in February! It’s a miserable existence when nobody can find anything to relieve it I have had every steroid spray drop nasel rinse you name it I have tried it the only thing that helps is having clarithromiacin for four weeks it has to be four weeks as the standard doseage does not do anything but I can’t get a gp to prescribe antibiotics for this long these days (been suffering for over 10 years now) despite getting letters from the hospital saying it’s as effective as surgery and they refer me back, I turned up in a&e desperate in 2020 and the hospital doctors just gave it to me and I did get relief for a few months, it’s so frustrating I understand the miss use of antibiotics but I also don’t agree with the ease they issue steroids and petroleum base products, I digress! So yes paracetamol it the first thing I have every day and all through the day I try really hard not to take as I know they can be the cause but it’s in my ears as well which apparently are not infected despite it hurting. I feel like a lost cause!
I found some acid blockers’ side effects are headache. I get that from Pepcid. Sulfates, sulfites, and msg give me a headache - bad for asthma anyway.
I kept waking up with severe headaches a few years back. Just by chance I mentioned it to my then Asthma Consultant who referred me for an overnight sleep study at Papworth Hospital and I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Once I was supplied with a CPAP machine the headaches disappeared. It is worth you asking about a referral. Hope you get sorted soon.
Is it like a sinus headache? Does it go gradually when you get up? If you have mucus in your sinuses, it can all go to one side when you're asleep and cause one of those horrible piercing headaches. If it's bad, try sleeping with your head slightly raised.
have you had 9am cortisol checked? I have adrenal insufficiency as well as asthma. When my 9am cortisol is low I wake with a headache and if ignore it - it turns to a mother of a migraine.
I think your nurse is right. The lack of oxygen in the blood can cause a headache in the morning. It can also be due to oversleeping, since if you sleep longer than 10 hours, it reduces the hormone of happiness, or seratonin, which reduces blood flow and provokes headaches. Personally, I fight my headache with the help of pills that I buy from a Canadian pharmacy canadapharmacy.com or from a local pharmacy if they are available, but this is not the best method in the fight against it.
