I was diagnosed with asthma years ago. Always have been real sensitive to diesel fumes and the like. I have had a couple of flareups and after treatment seem somewhat worse then before the flare up. I have a pocket spirometer and am getting FEV1 readings at about 77 percent. Can this be from asthma or is it a sign of COPD ? I am resisting going to a pulmonologist because I hate that hospital spirometer test. My GP said I had a infection and put me on anabiotic‘s and Singular. He said to come back and see him in six weeks and he would test me with his office Spirometer. Any responses welcome. I am 75 and walk and bike regularly.

If you have an infection then that is why your peak flow is reduced. Certainly there is no reason to consider COPD. Really only lung function tests will diagnose COPD but usually they will want several weeks (certainly in UK) to be recovered from infection before testing.Hope you recover quickly from infection and back to full strength soon.
