Cat ALLERGY

Hi I have always had cats, I got 2 kittens 5 months ago and had an asthma flare up. I have been fine for 4.5 months until had a flare up on Saturday. Can anyone help can you just get occasional allergic asthma from cats or would it happen all the time. I have had allergy blood tests and results show I’m allergic to all apart from trees, never had a problem in the past with grass dust etc.. only had raised skin if cat scratched me. Has anyone got any advice please thanks 😊

There could be multiple reasons you have had a flare up. Are you getting a chest infection infection? Weather has become colder? Assume you have done a Covid test?I would be surprised if having had no issues for 5 months that it is an issue due to kittens. Have you changed their cat litter? Changed something in home? Washing powder?

I think you should have a good think as to what may have changed over past few days……

Hi BevvyWe have two cats, no allergy to them Pollen yes, aftershave, perfume, tobacco smoke, etc., but never cats.

You may have been in the vicinity of someone wearing perfume on Saturday and not been aware of it.

Definitely check washing powder, (as Hopes 1 said), I use non bio, also look at hand wash, skin creams, use your own “hand sanitiser”, I do this as my hands became dry from using the public ones when out.

Best of luck Bernardine

I think you have replied to wrong person? I responded to Hopes1 who posted the original question and has flare up issues.

I think as we're all different it's hard to say. I'd be wearing a mask to brush them outside daily to keep the hair down & vacuum their area frequently.

I’m allergic to cats but always had/worked with them & symptoms do come & go,usually from different pollens they bring in on their coats,I wipe my cat over with a warm damp cloth when it’s bad,she doesn’t notice just thinks I’m stroking her. Also take cetirizine when sneezing badly.Use my left hand to stroke her, other to touch face etc.plus wash hands after cuddle time.If my allergies bad it does give me asthma, though seem to have it all the time now.If her coat is dry a good soft brush will distribute her natural oils so not shed so much skin flakes.Mine won’t eat oil in her food like dog does!If you get a rash, cold water then Anthisan,or wear long sleeves when petting them.A friend was very allergic to her long haired fluffy cat, bathed her once a hear, end of problem- don’t think mine would put up with that! 😁Hope that helps.x
