Well I haven't shielded for a year because that alone would have finished me off but looking forward to shielding generally not being a thing for people to rant about!
Looking forward to seeing family but that will largely be a while yet because it involves travelling (only UK but still not allowed) and the same for day trips. But the first stage is the stepping stone to all of that so bring it on! Just hope people are sensible about it so that the rest can follow. I suspect many won't be though but hey there will always be idiots in the world 😆🤦♀️
You are quite correct in that some people will always disobey rules even if their lives depend on it. But i think that if I keep as far away from them as I can then I should be OK. I wish at times that we lived in more considerate time for other people. HEY HO Such is life, I will stop moaning and look towards a VIRUS FREE WORLD.
That's not actually going to happen though - the virus will always be there - hopefully continually stamped on but it's not eradicated. But we (as a country) are in a much better position than a year ago so that's a very good thing!
Same as me I am looking forward to traveling up to Gateshead and seeing my youngest daughter especially my little granddaughter Priya as I have only scene her and played with her once since she was born. I, too, am looking forward to seeing our daughter and partner, but as they are in Scotland there is as yet no indication when that might be possible. I also can’t wait to see family who live abroad. I haven’t seen them for well over 18 months as it didn’t seem safe last year. However, no sign of that happening any time soon either. And I want to be safe. I have not shielded, though I am borderline, and in the vulnerable group anyway, so our choices have been to stay extremely careful. So I also look forward just to walk into town for a coffee with friends - haven’t really been properly into town for over a year though it is just 20 minutes away.
Me too! Soooo looking forward to seeing and hugging (when’s that allowed?🤷🏻♀️),my dearest daughter who brought me supplies during the first lockdown when I was too worried to go to the shops ❤️. I can’t wait to see and hug my son too and grandchildren and for things to be near normal again.
I haven’t had to shield, I don’t know how you’ve coped with that, just been very careful and kept away from people as far as possible.

Since September that's been my form of shielding, staying away from people - and avoiding shops when rates were high. Staying inside for each lockdown I couldn't have done. Even when I managed to get covid post vaccine and rates lowest they'd been in 6 months, my consultant wasn't alarmed I'd been out - think he'd rather I was out but trying to be safe than shut away.
So I shall continue with my making it up as I go along for now 😆
Not sure if it was because of the vaccine but I like to think it helped - it was 2 weeks post vaccine which apparently can happen (assume body is busy processing vaccine and immune system doesn't work so well generally. Or something...!) The covid itself was mild and am ok now (in that respect!) I did also have drugs thrown at me to prevent further issues (steroids, antibiotics, blood thinners). It was quite interesting though as I've been able to see just how different covid breathing issues and asthma issues are - they don't feel the same and covid breathing issues do not respond to asthma meds but they do respond to breathing exercises. Hence me harping on about it repeatedly on here 🤦♀️😬.
That’s interesting. I follow a calm breathing cd every day (Patrick McKeown) which Ive found helpful for my breathing and also my blood pressure! I find it difficult to follow if I’m having a flare up though, probably because of increase in mucous blocking my tubes! 😬. Glad no lasting Covid effects for you.
Breathing techniques definitely do not help me if it's asthma issues (long-term they do but not for symptoms that need dealing with if that makes sense). But breathlessness etc that was/is covid related is very much more like BPD issues and symptoms at the time respond to breathing exercises. The British Lung Foundation has a good page I found recently (the techniques I know from physio but it's well explained on there). These are techniques I do practice daily and they have really helped me to keep control of my breathing. That is until I have an asthma flair up 😬. But I think knowing I can stop/limit the ‘over- breathing’, which I used to do a lot, which made everything worse if you know what I mean, helps to keep me calm and more in control when I have a flair up.
I remember a few years ago, before I began doing the breathing techniques regularly (which have now just become part of my day to ‘check in’ on my breathing) I alway had difficulty getting my breathing back to normal after a flare up with pred etc. I cough a lot and this alters my breathing pattern. I used to feel like I couldn’t get enough breath and it used to be really hard to do the breathing exercises the physio told me to do. I’d recommend anyone to do these regularly, it really helps you to regain control. 😁
I have been very lucky during the lock down as doth me and my wonderful wife who has also had to shield for my safety have been shielding from day one, as we have a large house and garden so we were able to get out into the fresh air. The people who I feel sorry for are people in high-rise flats and unable to get fresh air apart from putting their heads out or near an open window. I saw when on the times I was admitted to hospital and was in a small isolation room just outside the hospital grounds people doing this. At least I knew I would be home in a few days.Let us just hope that we do not have to undergo all this again
