The mystery of why I wake up at 4am

For at least 4 weeks I have been waking up regularly at 4am. I thought it was another reason with another long term condition. Had my medication adjusted and it still happen. Last week and the week before that I had to use my inhaler at night once. This week 3 x at 4ish starting Monday but not last night.

Each time I did 4 puffs and was able to go straight back to sleep. No symptoms as such but able to go straight back to sleep. Last night I was so tired I slept right through.

Thoughts please.

Thankyou for the link. I have read it. I take monkelaust 10mg (For my allergic part of my asthma) house dustmite. Fostair nexthaler 200/6 2 puffs twice a day. Yes I do have nasal drip treated by dymista nasal spray. Is there anything else I can add on?

It’s possible a situ where you’re starting to flare so may need a short course of pred. Or you might benefit from a daily antihistamine (probs an OTC one). Hope this helps

That's already covered as I take antihistamines too. I will try and get in contact with asthma UK.

I get this everytime I get a chest infection wake up randomly at night and I'm wide awake (and shouldn't be) i once mentioned it to a doctor who's theory was sound ..... he said that your oxygen level drops naturally of a night while asleep and with your lungs working a bit harder will drop a bit more however there is a point that your body says nah wake the hell up we can do something about it awake but not asleep... sort of like built in oxygen level alarm..... it seemed to fit at least for me anyway

So maybe your oxygen is dropping a little more than usual if your struggling?

this happens to me almost every night I think it might be low blood sugar levels for me to, if I have a few biscuits and use my inhaler I usually go back to sleep.

I was waking up 3 am every day, couldn’t work out why. Eventually discovered my brother, on a visit, thought it would be funny to set an alarm on my new cordless phones - but didn’t realise I had a fixed phone in the bedroom (so I could call for help in a powercut!). Weeks before I got fed up enough to go exploring downstairs and found the phone tweeting away to itself. Evidently my hearing when asleep is sharper than awake 😂!

I have the same I think it’s disrupted levels of cortisol in my body due to long term steroid use

Thankyou for your thoughts contacted asthma UK by WhatsApp for advice. Trying to get hold of my doctors. Advice was a review of my preventor and a course of steroids tablets.

Spoke to my doctors and going through all my symptoms. Possible tree pollen trigger it. The doctor recommends starting a course of steroids tablets for 5 days. To ring back if things don't improve keeping 'a low threshold' on whether to get help or not.

I took my steroids tablets last night. The result was that I went from a very tired person to buzzing and couldn't get to sleep til 11pm and woke up at 4am. I needed my ventolin then but I am sure I will be having least need of it by day 5.

I completely said through last year and forgot I had asthma. Then it come knocking saying remember me.

I seem to back to doing this again. I been waking up and putting my headphones on and listening to UCB radio. I am able to track my sleep pattern on my smart watch. I was getting much better towards end of my steroids course. So tired so going back to my GPs. Need proper sleep.
