Using a spacer for the first time

I have only recently been diagnosed and have been given a Fostair inhaler. My doctor suggested to me that I might benefit from using a spacer and I got an Aerochamber plus today. I'm worried that I'm being incredibly dim!The instructions say that it's ready to be used straight from the packet, which I did (and also watched an instruction video) but I had no sense at all of actually inhaling anything. I took it apart and about an inch in from the mouthpiece there is plastic going all the way across without any holes so I can't see how the puff can get anywhere beyond the main chamber. Does this sound like a faulty item or have I fundamentally misunderstood how it works?!

I think that whole piece goes in and out when you breathe, along with the red "button" behind it. Fostair is a fine mist compared to other inhalers (designed that way to get further into the lungs) so it's possible that's why you're not feeling it - it's a fine mist anyway and then it's held in the chamber of the spacer and breathed in gradually from there.

I'm Fostair with aerochamber when things are a bit tough. It takes a while to get used to using. In the early days I breathed in as I would with a straight puff and you get this nice noise. So you need to be slow with it and true it does feel a bit like nothing is going on but over a couple of days it starts to make a difference. Several breaths in as is suggested it's not like just one puff does it! Good luck.
