Am I safe going into hospital for an Eye Op.

I have moderate and sometimes severe asthma and end up in A&E, and last year hospitalised. I have to go and have an eye operation on the 22nd February and have not had a covid jab. Will I be safe, as the majority of Drs etc should have had their jabs by now? I'm getting increasingly worried and my Dr has told me I'm group 9.

I would say you are safe. A hospital has lots of PPE and methods of keeping people safe, plus as you say all or most staff will have been vaccinated. If you begin to feel really anxious about it though, I am sure they won't mind rescheduling the appointment for you. But personally I would say it is safe.

I had to go for a throat examination last week. Was very impressed how safe etc it all was. I have no doubt that eye op will be as safe as required. I wouldn’t hesitate. Operation is obviously required but if you could wait then surgeon would be happy to defer.

I was in a&e & admitted last week with my asthma and felt safer than any public place. You’ll be likely covid tested before going in for the op (as will anyone else there). Staff will be in some form of ppe. Lots of nhs staff are also having regular covid tests also to pick cases up. They will do all they can to try & keep you safe. But do understand it can be a worry.
