I was positive for COVID-19 on 9th Jan. Symptoms started 7th Jan (day 1) by day 6 the fever and pain has pretty much gone however my chest has deteriorated in the last 48 hours. I have increased flixotide from usual 250mg to 750mg on day 2 and now 1000mg day on day 6. No real wheezing and breathing easyish at rest. But feel lung capacity limited both when normal breathing and taking inhaler. Had many illness and hospitalisations with asthma, but never such limited capacity without obvious symptoms (other than the virus which has wiped me out)

I’ve requested a course of Prednisolone from GP- any thoughts?

Cheers.

I would contact 111 and talk to them as the breathlessness might be being caused by the virus and not asthma

I would seek advice from your GP or consultant before taking oral steroids for Covid breathing problems. Steroids aren't normally prescribed for Covid patients. I can understand the temptation but it may not necessarily be advisable without getting the OK from your doctor. Secondary bacterial infection is the main thing to identify and treat so that's why it's important to seek medical advice for Covid symptoms.

Hope you make a swift recovery.

Hi I had what I thought was a deterioration in my asthma at the beginning of November so saw asthma nurse who recommended upping ventolin but 2 days later no difference so saw gp and was given steroids and antibiotics and sent for covid test as temperatures was borderline 37.7 test negative but have had 2 more lots of steroids and referral to respiratory consultant who added spiriva respimat to fostair 200 2 puffs twice a day. They all think I’ve had long covid. Steroids did help me but definitely do with advice of doctors as each time I came off them I slipped back again to being out of breath after even short activities or walking upstairs. It just seems to take time . Finally seems to be settling with new in haler but it’s over 2 months now and still not back at work as need to wear a mask all day as work in a hospital. Hope you feel better soon x
