covid temp

Hi im not able to get to my testing centre without using public transport and shielding to, so telephoned for a home test on Wednesday because of Christmas its arriving today by amazon. I have had really high temperature that just wont seem to go. Twice i have got it down to normal temp over the last 6 days but it shoots back up. with paracetamol at best it comes down to 37-4 /7/9 in-between times its 38.7 /9 and has once gone up to 39.6 and 39.9 :-/. Both time were in the evening when really start feeling cold/chilled to my bones and have stupidly tried to wrap up only to have to strip off to bring it down again.

last night slept with just thin sheet and was so cold but managed to keep temp down to 37 (took last paracetamol at 12.20 last night , 6 this morning back up to 38.1 please someone tell me this will ease up soon :(. starting to feel so nauseous from the temp head is banging at times but just wondered if this is normal for 6 days ?

if someone has had a temp for 2 weeks or more please don't tell me ha ha, breathing is fine other than all this feel ok, assuming must be covid as other half coughing his lungs up. (doctor last week told him thought it was gerd making him cough, his been coughing 12 days now, no temp so praying he is over the worst of it. neither of us are leaving the house. work from home and shielding. My partner literally has gone out twice in the last month, last time on sat the 12th December and he started clearing his through coughing to start with on the Tuesday after.

Im praying its some other virus cos Im scared if im honest but longer this temp stays (that and between me and hubby have classic symptoms thinking probably is covid. I have only been able to see my 6yr grandson once before went back to school when numbers were at low end, who i miss so much but all i was hoping for this christmas day was a bit of nice lamb roast and couple drinks at least , like everything else this yr not happening, had a fish finger sandwhich instead, which was still nice mind ha ha.

Sorry to hear you're not well, I hope it eases up soon. From what I've heard (and of course every single person seems to have a different experience), it is normal if the temp/headache last a week or so. But then others don't get that at all and have different symptoms entirely (like your husband with the coughing) or no symptoms. So it might be difficult for people to be able to say what to expect.

Under 37.5 is classed as a normal temperature if that helps but, to me, it going up 6 hours after paracetamol etc isn't surprising if you have a virus. Can you take ibuprofen? If so I would put in some of that as well to keep on top of it. If not space out the paracetamol as best you can for the doses in 24 hours.

I think they say that after a week, if you have no temp then you're not infectious. So I suspect your husband is ok now in that respect - the cough can last a long long time, like in many viral coughs.

A couple of friends had it in the spring similarly to how yours sounds (including the temp going up in the evening I seem to remember) and once the headache/temp subsided they were fine - tired etc for another few days but then ok to go back to work (nurses).

I hope you're on the mend soon.

Hi thanks for your reply, been advised against taking ibuprofen (cos asthma and stomach issues). day 7 of temps but think temps even tho dont feel any better , only going up to 38.4 now rather than into 39 (still feels lousey tho, nausea came on that day too and am gagging from phelgm and nausea feeling. muscus looked dark green this morning so trying to get antibotics now. my doctors surgery said would fit me this afternoon only to send me a txt when they was going to call to say ring walk in place, who are busy will call but might take couple hours so if very lucky might get them intime before chemist closes.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer but there might be a chemist open very late they could send a prescription to.

well got my resuts back positive :-/ thought as much still scary reading it. and doctors finally called at 6.37 and my local chemist was not advertising on google but are actually open until 8 tonight, Pretty sure my doctor would have given me something stronger than amoxcilian. this one said well if u get worse will give u stronger ones.

It may well be viral anyway, especially as you have a confirmed virus (and green sputum isn't necessarily bacterial), in which case no antibiotics will help. Unless it becomes bacterial obviously.

But hopefully things will improve for you and I'm glad you got a callback!

Except it's viral they will not do anything so in that respect taking nothing would be no different. Right now you can't know either way so you may as well take them I guess.

Hi polly, my friend has it atm she's tested twice a week as working on frontline so was shocked to have got it right before xmas.

She's not too bad in mornings but gets worse as day goes on her temp like yours her bed is dripping wet each night really struggling to control it and exhausted.

Can't smell or taste a thing she was so annoyed about xmas dinner! Her partner no symptoms atm but waiting on his tests.

As twinkly said each person really is affected differently so can't compare also depends on variant exposed to and how your immune was at the time maybe.

Hope you feel better very soon, if worried at all just call 111 or gp. Hope your test comes soon.
