Prednisolone

Is it just me or do others have difficulty sleeping whilst taking prednisolone.

Well known side effects unfortunately if look back through at posts you'll see loads on ideas to combat pred insomnia or just reassurance that it's the pred. But no magic cure I'm afraid. Lots of trial and error!

Predsomina is a thing. Try and get a good sleep routine, but don’t be surprised/too annoyed on the nights that that’s not enough 😅. Hopefully your course isn’t too long

I was told only take it in the morning or it could keep you awake

I tend to collect lighthearted films etc for those nights when pred-head takes over. Sleep gets very difficult. Follow good advice as per above, but also cultivate a philosophical attitude towards it. It helps. And it goes once you are off them.

I take VitD3 plus other vits, magnesium, potassium & fish oil before bedtime and they are definitely helping me sleep despite being on Pred. I used to take them in the morning but would get sleepy afterwards and that's why I started taking them in the evening. Not sure which element is responsible for the sleep though, but Google suggests magnesium is good for melatonin production.

Hiya, magnesium biglycinate (forgive the spelling) has been shown to help with sleeping, it works for me

Mine's just magnesium oxide. I must admit I don't understand the different types of magnesium but have just bought Mag365 to try that.

I’d say as long as your getting good and consistent levels of magnesium it will help, good luck

Sorry, meant to say to avoid magnesium oxide if you can, it’s poorly absorbed

No problem, and the same to you

No not just you. In the last year when on steroids I am lucky to get 3hrs sleep, I feel as if eyes taped open. It's horrendous. Just finished a 10 day course, and had to try and work as well. Feel as if been through a spin cycle in a washing machine.

Regrettably no solutions to share, other than sharing the frustration

My sleeping has always been dreadful, and i have tried so many different medications, and am now on Melatonin and Lithium, but still no real sleep pattern and i just put it down to not needing a lot of sleep.

I have not found difficulty sleeping while taking prednisone. Ideally, you should be taking prednisone in the morning in order to minimise any sleep disruption.

I do take it in the morning. Have finished course now.
