I have asthma & bronchiectass & I am currently awaiting to see a specialist,I have recently had sputum & chest xray which were all clear, & also a blood test which results were that I have very severe allergy levels I have just finished 5 day course of prednisolone + 14 day course of amoxicillin early last week & I am still coughing clear phlegm & quite breathless.. I was wondering if I should start another course of antibiotics & prednisolone as it is a few weeks yet before I see Specialist... All answers warmly received..Thank you..

Hi Primrose. It sounds like you should probably have this conversation with your gp while you wait for your specialist. If you're breathings not controlled with your inhalers then you may need another course of steroid but if you have no temp I'd probably hang fire on antibiotics. Again, not a doctor so just an opinion!
But yes, there are many different types of antihistamine available including piriteze. Many of us take one called telfast (fexofenadine) which may be worth mentioning to the doctor.

Many thanks ReedB, I have taken your advice & started another 5 day course of prednisolone, I phoned the surgery & asked the receptionist if the doctor could call me, she said the doctors are exceptionally busy with emergency calls, she did say the doctor may call & if not will leave a prescription, I asked for rescue pack of prednisolone & also for Telfast (Fexofenadine) allergy tablets, the doctor did not manage to call but will have probably left a prescription, which I will phone & if prescription left , I will get it collected tomorrow.. I will let you know how I get on Reed B, but again many thanks for being so helpful, your kindness is much appreciated..Hope all good & well with you.. Take care & stay safe... Primrose123 x
Glad to be of help but I would push to speak to a doctor. Even if they know you well and you have rescue packs at home they should speak to you, especially if it warrants more prednisolone. X
Thank you ReedB for your kind reply, the receptionists at the surgery where I am make it abundantly clear that the doctor will just have a telephone consultation with the patient if it is an emergency only, there are NO face to face consultations atall, they are all very busy apparently with the pandemic ongoings, which to a certain extent I can understand..I had asked for a 2nd opinion and that is why I am seeing a specialist shortly, I have had all the needful tests which apart from the high allergy levels are all clear,I just feel that for the past 10 years that I have been on the wrong medication, & I have just learned recently that many of my problems is due to my high allergy levels, 1st time ever I have had been allergy tested, so I have been informed by the physiotherapist that the consultant will probably change all my medications, so as it wont be too long now I have decided that I will just wait..Thanks again ReedB,& Take care..
