Montelukast and peakflow.

My asthma is treating me gently just now, long may it continue. It is not quite perfect, but no worries. One odd thing I have noticed recently is that my pf often is slightly higher am than pm. It has to be said I mostly don’t do my pf until mid am. There are reasons, but not necessarily good ones.

As we are mostly advised I take my Montelukast at night. Could it be that that improves my am pf, but the effect is gone after 24 hrs?

As said I am fine, but warily testing going for walks in the cold as I had lots of problems last year. Thus I am noticing my pf more, and generally being more aware.

Like you, Wheezycat my mid morning pf is usually the highest, not always, but mostly. This has always been the case with me, even before I started on Montelukast. I take it about 8pm and my last peak flow about 10:30, so I would think it is starting to take effect by then.

I have always just thought this is the way it is because of varies through the day, I think, maybe 😀

So, not just me then. It is not always, and my memory is that it mostly varies the ‘normal’ way round, but now not so much. I had big problems going for walks last winter, and though I am now on higher meds, I am wary where this winter will take me. I do all the usual with scarves etc and I am also training myself to remember take Ventolin before venturing out. Last winter could leave me exhausted for hours after walking outside, so I don’t want to go there again. Thus I am now studying my pf closely. Etc. Just want to pin down what helps and what doesn’t. By the way, summer time is a doddle.

How strange that you prefer Summer! I hated this Summer it was so hot and close I couldn't bree the. I much prefer the crisp fresh air of Autumn and a frosty winter.

Yeah, we are all different. Cold air spells troubled and I find it difficult to go for walks etc, though I am working on ways of improving it. However, I grew up in a very northern climate, well north of north Scotland, with lots of snow and all that. And we enjoyed the outdoors all year round. I seem to have lost that, sadly.
