After reading on health Unlocked about problems getting through to the doctors in A&E departments have any of you had problems with the paramedics. I telephoned my doctor at 8.00am one morning and received a triage call withing incidentally the doctor who I spoke to speciality is respiratory, told me to dial 999 for emergency ambulance. In due course the ambulance crew came to my house and after the usual tests said I was alright and I suggested that they contact my doctor for him to make the decision as what to do next. I was listening to the conversation and she fabricated the results of the test, but luckily my GP said "As he knew me and my symptoms still to take me to A&E for their verdict. She was not happy about this and never spoke to me again. After blood tests etc. it was found that I had a virus and high eosinophils and was admitted to the wards. Perhaps (I am known at my local hospital as the revolving door patient) what my problems are, and I have never had any complaints about the staff. Everybody Keep Safe Look After Yourselves

Like with doctors, GPs/A&E/medics, it does seem to depend who you get.

Where I used to live I avoided 999 where possible and got a lift to hospital. This wasn't encouraged but the paramedic experience was never good - several times they'd not want to take me (sats don't drop and I don't wheeze) so they'd phone my GP surgery and whoever was on the emergency line bit would instruct them to take me now. Another occasion the GP called 999 (I was at the surgery) and the paramedics actually argued with the GP about it! On the way in they suddenly got all panicked and sped up and phoned ahead...hmmm maybe you should have not dismissed the GP!

However, where I live now I've not (so far!) had an issue and they've always been brilliant - completely Understanding that people are different and that ok sats, for example, doesn't mean all is ok.

So I think it does just depend. It's difficult at the moment as a GP can advise someone to phone 999 but hasn't actually examined them so it may be that it's not needed (as a 999 emergency) - not saying that was the case for you, or that they shouldn't advise it because if they're concerned they should, just that it's extra difficult at the moment.

Hopefully, if there's another occasion, you'll get a better crew!

Thanks for your reply. If the GP says phone 999 I just say to them, that my wife will take me to A&E {A 10 minute drive ) if he thinks that this will be quicker than involving the emergency services, and as I wrote in my letter they know me in A&E, as I suffer with severe asthma and will fast track me for treatment.
