12 weeks isolation or not?

Hi I’m confused as to who should be isolating for 12weeks. I understood anyone with asthma or receiving a free flu jab should practice social distancing strictly. But I read an article which also showed an interview with the deputy chief medical officer Prof. Van-Tam and it implied anyone offered a free flu jab should self isolate for 12 weeks. But on Asthma U.K. it appears to just say keep to social distancing ??

Ok, so I've looked at this article. I guess you mean this section between the stars (below). The article calls out 'social distancing' for asthmatics and the article continues below with advice from Asthma UK that self isolation is not needed, but to keep contact with others to a minimum. If you have severe asthma, then you would be classed as 'high-risk' and shielding would need to be stringently followed - these are the people who should have received letters giving them guidance on this and there is further information on Asthma UK website about this. If you are in doubt you could always discuss with your GP.

***Should I self-isolate if I have asthma?

One of Britain's top doctors has urged asthma sufferers to stay at home where possible to protect themselves from contracting Covid-19.

Jonathan Van-Tam, Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England said people with asthma should avoid unnecessary interactions.

This has been labelled 'social distancing', which has been put in place to cut down the spread of the virus.

Asthma UK have told those with the condition that amid the coronavirus they should:

Avoid unnecessary interactions with other people including, shaking hands with people or hugging them, and unnecessary travel, especially on public transport

Where possible, work from home

Self-isolation is not needed, but keep contact with others to a minimum*

Thanks for the reply you confirm what I thought.

It was the writing below the video at the bottom that I found mid-leading. I guess that was the paper Mis quoting

GUIDANCE Asthma sufferers and ANYONE who gets the flu jab should be self-isolating for 12 weeks, top coronavirus doc Jonathan Van-Tam warns

Ahh I see - yes it does seems misquoted, especially on watching what JVT says and considering the Asthma UK guidance.

You should be contacted by the nhs / government directly If you are in the most vulnerable category... it’s only really those that are the most servere ... I’m on oral steroids continuously and have been for 5 years . I also take biological therapy monthly .... so I had a both a txt and letter to advice me to shield ....
