Hi all just a quick question... My Asthma is playing up and I've had this before and no that I need a course of steroids, but my doctors surgery dont have walk ins at the moment cause of covid 19, but some people have told me if I phone up they can prescribe over phone? How true is this? I can cope tonight with my inhalor but I know from past experiences (had 3 course of steroids so far since I was diagnosed only 2 years ago) tomorrow I'm planning on ringing surgery when they open 8am, but it scares me I dont know why I feel nervous to ring to ask :( thank you in advance :)

Of course you must phone. GP surgeries are doing telephone triage, they'll only ask you to go in if they feel they really need to see you. Given your history, I imagine they'll be happy to prescribe over the phone

Hello scarlett3333, if you are feeling really bad ring 111 & they will probably prescribe steroids & antibiotics for you tonight, & you should always ask your doctor for a rescue pack of antibiotics & steroid tablets in the event of an emergency..Hope all goes well for you..Take care,& God bless...xx

Ask for a rescue pack which contains steroids and antibiotics. My GP gave me some for the children x

Hi Scarlett 🙂 I’ve had exactly the same. Ring your doctor, explain to reception. They should ask the doc to ring you back, and they hopefully will prescribe steroids over the phone like mine did. Take care x

If you can get through. I have been trying so many times unable to get through. Any emails remain unanswered. Do not know what to do?

I spoke to my doctor over the phone yesterday. She changed my meds and upped some other and sent it straight to the pharmacy.

I've had asthma exacerbation since beginning March, coming through it now. I rang doctors too yesterday to discuss preventer use. She also gave me a rescue pack. I did over the phone consultation with doctor. The surgery however was prioritising calls, and I had to wait for a call back from her.
