My 17 year old daughter had her first mepolizumab injection yesterday and after a few hours she got chest pain, feels really tired and generally rubbish. Can anyone advise if this is common and how long it lasts?

Mepolizumab reaction
Hi
The biologicals are notorious for make you feel like you have flu for 24-48hrs post injection (tired, achy, sore, headache, generally rubbish etc etc). Most people find that it calms the more doses you gets. Personally I felt flu like after both mepo (3/4 doses) and benralizumab (4 doses so far), but the time length of it has drastically shortened. I try to make sure I have the dose on Friday/Saturday so it doesn’t interrupt work too much 😅. If you/she are concerned, I’d suggest both contacting the spec team that gave her the mepo, and try and see her GP if she’s feeling it’s getting worse or if it lasts more than 48hrs, just to get checked out (my first benra lead to a queried chest infection... we couldn’t work out if it was infection or side effects so GP gave ABs prophylactically 😅).
Hope she feels better soon and that mepo is her ‘solution’!
I felt really awful after my first injection. It was like having really bad flu. The first dose caused this for about 48 hours and then i felt ok. I usually feel super tired and a bit achy for about 24 post injection. Usually i just sleep it off and after that i feel fine. Hope your daughter feels better soon
I hope she feels better now. This post is scaring me a bit, my 6 year old will be starting mepo in 3 weeks time, although they have said they will keep him on the ward for a few hours afterwards.
Thanks for the feedback. 48 hours later she bounced back and so far has been great.
