Problem solved!

Got an emergency appt.

Allergic reaction - possibly to tuna (waaaaaaah say it ain't soooooo!)

Got prescribed Phenergan (promethazine hydrochloride) & hydrocortisone creme.

Someone please correct me or in fact help me out cos my brains half switched off and i may be completely wrong but isn't there some wierd thing with fish where it can have high histamine levels if its stressed when caught which can cause reactions or is that just in mackerel??? Remember watching some tv programme about it.

Anyone got any more info!

Not sure about this one, I'd have thought that as histamine is a protein it would be denatured and rendered ineffective by cooking above 60'C... so unless you're eating sushi it shouldn't be a problem.

Mmmm, I love sushi though!

Marmite ...looks like you have thrown us a ""red herring"" - LOL

(sorry, could resist as he rolls about the floor laughing at his own jokes)

LOL Deek...

I thought Marmite's story was a bit fishy....

I read it a couple of times but I just wasn't sole-d....

It doesn't really hold up when you ex-salmon the evidence...

Okay, I'm sorry! I'm done now

Here we are!

emj.bmjjournals.com/cgi/con...

Scombrotoxic or histamine fish poisoning is a common condition normally associated with consuming spoiled tuna, mackerel, bonito, or skipjack. Typical symptoms like flushing, urticaria, and palpitations mimic those of allergy so histamine fish poisoning can easily be misdiagnosed. Diagnosis is often clinical and the mainstay of treatment is antihistamines

Also put 'Histamine Fish Mackerel ' into Google advanced for more pages on fishy bits.

Mu mum had a problem with a toxic oyster once - exaserbated by champagne & wine ( she was quite pukey!)

Moral of the story is to get very fresh fish where possible (or the quick froz stuff)

LOL - Deek and EmH - you hsould both be ashamed of yourselves with those bad jokes!!! Actually had me laughing which my lungs are even now protesting about!

Okay, okay, not only do I make very bad jokes, but I got it wrong as well! Thanks Kate for that reference, very interesting stuff.

Somebody please go get a fishing rod and reel in all the bad fish jokes :o)

Don’t know about a fishing rod, ..but if its any use, I picked up lovely fish nets with matching wig at the street market here in Tenerife ;o)

Wheezyab - please don't laugh too loudly or you'll disturb the old trouts next to you.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

Derek
