There is hope for young asthmatics, my parents were told when I was about 3 years old that, your body changes every 7 years, I may outgrow it, I’m on my 11th 7 years now so fingers crossed, I suggest never smoke, COPD with Asthma is NOT a bundle of fun

I was told the same in 1935 when I was 3! I am still waiting at 87!

Let’s not be impatient, you got another 4 years to go

lol

I have both asthma and COPD (or fixed airway obstruction or small airways disease or irreversible asthma depending on which GP I see) too and I’m only 41! If I can outgrow it there’s hope yet ;)

When I was 3 or so (late 1960s) my parents were told that it was a really bad idea to give me any treatment as it would stop me growing out of asthma.

50+ years later, it transpires that not only did I not grow out of it, but have developed long-term and serious complications generally attributed to a failure to treat my childhood asthma.

Thanks Dr M. Great advice.

On the other hand, my son grew out of it, although I haven’t. - so you never know!

Hopefully you don’t smoke, that will eventually cripple you with COPD, I have that, Asthma isn’t curable medically, it’s controlled, in the late 40’s early 50’s there was a tablet called Neo-Epenine, or something like that, it was the best relief from total discomfort, ever, it was taken off the market, no relievers I have had since has come close to that relief.

It’s a long story in terms of diagnosis etc., but I have an illness known as ABPA (Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis). My advice if it is going downhill is get yourself referred for some tests. ABPA is quite rare but there’s all sorts of similar things that can arise if your lungs have suffered damage in childhood, bronchiectasis for example (which was my initial l, as it turned out incorrect, diagnosis).

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. It's a tricky one to treat for sure. I hope you find some improvements with the right treatment now you have a proper diagnosis.

I smoked heavily for 20 years causing the asthma to get so bad I had a bronchial lavage which improved my asthma but didn’t stop me developing COPD. At the moment with the amount of pollution in the air ( no such thing as fresh air anymore) I have taken to breathing filtered air for an hour a day which seems to be helping.
