Does anyone have any experience of their 2 year old being prescribed Flixotide? My son (2.5) has been on Clenil 400mg for the past year and they just changed it to Flixotide but the accompanying leaflet says not for under 16 and NiCE guidelines say not for under 5. I am wondering if there might have been a mistake. Any experience of this? Thanks

2 year old prescribed Flixotide
• Children aged 1 to 4 years
Inhaled FLIXOTIDE is of benefit to younger children in the control of frequent and persistent asthma symptoms.
Clinical trials in 1 to 4 year old children have shown that the optimal control of asthma symptoms is achieved with 100 micrograms twice daily, administered via a paediatric spacer device with a face mask (such as the BABYHALER ™).
The diagnosis and treatment of asthma should be kept under regular review.
My younger son was put on flixotide when he was quite young (certainly a lot less than 16 - or even 10). What I can’t recall is whether he was put on it when he was diagnosed - aged 3; he’s now 27. Given that this was back in the 1990s (and flixotide only became available in the early 1990s) there must have been a degree of flexibility even then. I was put on it around 1995/6, having been switched onto it from becotide (which uses beclometasone as the active ingredient, same as clenil), having never found becotide terribly effective at controlling my asthma. It certainly improved things for me.
I was on clenil a d then my GP changed to seretide
