Hello, I have got my results for my blood test and it says eosinophil 0.6.
This blood test was done at a chest clinic since I am asthmatic and I have also dust allergies and hey fever. I understand the number Is high so I am worried as if it's normal because of my conditions or if there is another underlying condition on its own that could be causing the eosinophil level to rise.
Could anyone explain this to me and ease my mind.

It could be that you have eosinophilic asthma, esp if you’re finding it difficult to get control back. In a way it’s a good thing because it means that you have access to a greater variety of biological treatments (if you’re at that level). Some other conditions can increase eosinophil count too however mine is solely blamed on my asthma...

Yes it has mentioned I have eosinophil asthma but how has the doctor come to that conclusion, I have done my lung functioning test and all was fine. So I'm confused.

The test for eosinophilic asthma is; do you have asthma? do you have a high blood eosinophil count? Yes? Eosinophilic asthma then 😂. You can also have multiple types of asthma. Personally I have eosinophilic and atopic cause my eosins and IgE count are both high - personally my eosins is more prevalent. LFTs are only accurate in asthma if done when symptomatic or if reversibility is shown, so if they strongly suspect asthma but LFT was normal cause done on a good day they’ll still say asthma until proven wrong.
😂 I understand, Thank you very much for your help. If you wouldn't mind telling me if you had any experience with fostair 100/6 inhaler. I am using clenil 200 and salbutamol 100 however, on my last visit to the doc he changed my inhaler to this fostair. I am currently fine with my clenil, I am little bit worried because I had a bad experience last time I changed my inhaler to one called relvar, I used to get severe cough actually I was not well at all! So I went back to my clenil and all was fine and now suddenly I've been given this one (Fostair). You have any experience with this inhaler?
My Fostair 100 experience is minimal... I used it for max 5 day before they put me on the Fostair 200 nexthaler cause 100 wasn’t enough and I do better with DPI so doubt I can be of much help 😂. For the 200 I remember have a few days for the shakes, however others I know have had a touch of palpitations/anxiety with it. Most side effects calm down within a few weeks so worth preserving with it but going back if asthma is worse or side effects don’t go away.
If you’re not happy to change it’s worth talking to the doc and asking for he’s reasoning behind the decision. Both clenil and Fostair are beclometasone based however Fostair has a LABA in it which is basically longer lasting salbutamol, and should lower the need for salbutamol. Fostair 100 can be used as a MART regime where you use that instead of the ventolin to relieve symptoms, but that depends on dose and how it’s been prescribed to you.
As a side note relvar uses fluticasone as it’s steroid base so it may be that that you had issues with.

I don’t have eosinophilic asthma so have limited experience there, but I was on fostair 100/6, both just as a regular preventer and as the MART regime for a couple of months each before I was put on the 200/6 dose.
I never had any issues with it! I think I had some problems with tremor for a week or so after I started it but that settled pretty quickly and I definitely found it more effective than the steroid only inhaler I had been on beforehand
My husband was diagnosed with eosinophilic asthma this February after a bad cold that started 27th December, he's 47 and never had asthma before, although looking back there were signs. His lungs are clear and he is often very quiet when breathing, we now know that when hia breathing (or attempts at breathing) are silent then things are serious. His breathing tests (spiro) is fine and his peak flow is now between 520-600, a huge improvement from what it was before his medications were sorted. He takes fostair 200/6 2 puffs morning and night but has been told on bad days can increase that to 4, he also has montelukast. He has the shakes pretty bad, he struggles to hold a drink and eat at times, it's annoying but his asthma is controlled. His eosinophils were horrendously high when he was first diagnosed, the asthma clinic said they found it quite exciting, not so exciting for us but they knew they would stabalise him. He was in hospital for just over a week, 3 days in respiratory resus, he then visited asthma clinic weekly, they fortnightly at the last visit they said they were happy to wait 3 months. It certainly had been a life changer but for now is well managed. His other symptoms related to eosinophilic asthma are no sense of smell or taste, paralysed vocal chords so voice drops in and out (starts speech therapy in August) , chronic sinusitis which he is having strong nasal drops for for 3 months then ent said surgery will be discussed.
