Tickly itch rant

I'm going mad with a tickly itch in the front of my chest. I try coughing but it's just not relieving it, but now I'm sore from coughing grrrr. I just want to reach in there and scratch it 😬

I can't say that I have come across a tickly itch in front of chest, but can imagine it is annoying! Do you think it might be related to an allergy?

I have multiple allergies and they do tend to give me some odd symptoms at time, i.e. not in most text books! For coughs where it seems to be on the chest but not shifting I use an old fashioned steam inhalers. They tend to loosen any mucus on the chest. In the mornings I often wake with phelgm at the top of my chest and, when taking my inhalers and doing a gargle and nasal wash, I find banging the top of my chest firmly in the centre with my fist then coughing helps to shift anything.

Trying an antihistamine on regular basis for a while might help if it is allergy based. For inhaled allergens such as pollen they only work over a period of time, best started before the allergens kick in. You can be tested for allergies. Is it seasonal or all the time?

Yeah I tend to be not textbook for anything ha ha.

Hmm good thinking actually, I usually start to get stuffyness and post nasal drip around this time of year, and I have been getting an itchy throat too. I'll start the nasal spray I normally use and see if that helps.

I'm getting some mucus up, but it's mostly just a dry cough. Its really frustrating when nothing can suppress it.

I get this - and it always occurs when my asthma is having a flare up. I sympathise entirely with the wish you could just reach inside and have a good scratch, that’s exactly how I feel when it happens.

Yes if only I could reach in there, so frustrating isn't it? :-(

Certainly is. I’d love to know why it happens, and why it’s not common to all asthmatics. What I tend to end up doing is rubbing my chest over the afflicted area - not that it does any good, it’s just a reflex action I suppose.

Hi, I have the same, I can't stop coughing, around the clock. Just had 3 day of steroids and I am on doxycycline for chest infection. This cough is really beginning to get me down. I can't sleep, lucky to get 2 hours together. Getting up about 5am as can't cope any longer in bed. Using blue inhaler frequently, doesnt seem to help for long. Started anti histamine myself. Back to the dr on tuesday, really looking forward to going as can't cope with this for much longer.
