4 weeks ago I had a tickle at the back of my throat which the next day turned into an horrendous cough and very tight chest. I've been an asthmatic since I was 7 yrs old. O'm now 28 and I have been hospitalised and have had many A&E admissions with asthma attacks within the last 3 years. The last 4 weeks ive been going to my GP lots. They listened to my chest and there was a wheeze. I have been on pred now for the past 4 weeks. I had an asthma attack at work on tuesday. Im a nurse at my local hospital luckily and one of the cardiologists I work with listened to my chest and said there was still a wheeze. Unfortunatley the ventolin 10 puffs didnt work so I had to go to a&e for a neb. Saw the GP the next day more pred and was shocked a&e didnt do a chest xray so they requested one which im still aw results for. They signed me off work and my sickness record is awful as im also under investigation for my aura migraines at the moment. The neurologist changed my medication! I'm still having coughing fits on exertion and feel im getting no where. Any advice? I am currently on seretide 100 two puffs BD plus montelukast. I dont know what to do!

Are you under a respiratory consultant at your hospital if your not maybe as gp to refer you so they can try and get you more stable as it doesn’t look like your preventer inhaler is working to well the specialists have more tests they can do lung function tests etc then they can help to diagnose which type of asthma you have I have brittle asthma and get intubated on most admissions I also have something called trachaebroncomalaicia which is where my bronchials collapse on themselves and shut the airway off but if I had not been under consultant care and been referred to regional specialists it would not of got diagnosed and asthma treatment is the opposite of what the tbm likes so I am not great right now so I know

How it feels it’s frustrating I hope this mightof helped a little good luck keep pushing don’t give up good luck xxxx

I went back and forth like this for a year.... up and down with the Prednisone. Finally on my 5th trip to ER...blood test showed Bacteria in my lungs that all of that mucus was trying to get rid of. Had been taken off Symbicort but Mayo Clinic put me back... took an antibiotic for the bacteria for 7 days and a month maintenance on a sulpha medication to knock down any other bacteria...Asthma under control now...I have bronchiectasis so I can harbor many types of bacteria and they will set off my asthma. I think a sputum sample is the best way to see what is going on.
