hi I am looking for advice here two years ago I had haft left lung removed .and been astmac for ten years .but not bad .but the last six mouths I have been having bad asthma attacks .and been seeing GP and she's been great trying to sort it .but sad I did not know then they were asthma attacks .so she's been looking at other things like panic attacks .week ago I was really bad .and thought I would try something .because I got oxygen at home and some nebulisers I thought I would try these and see what happens .and for a week now I cant believe the difference in me and what I am doing .much more things not getting breathless .and feel great .so thought see GP last Friday .to see if she agreed and keep me on this .as five mines every morning that's all its taking and I feel great .but my GP said no have to stop and gave me foster next haler and a green puffer and she said if there don't work .then I have to phone 999 to get to hospital to be put on a nebuliser .I said I have one at home .she said stop using it .don't use it .so I have to cost the nhs money ..where the peak flow was going 450 now its around 340 with puffers and not feeling right .what should I do .why should I phone 999 and be taken to hospital when I have it all at home .she also said its dangerous to have at home witch I never heard off before.does any body use a nebuliser at home

Hi

I use a nebulizer that was issued by my consultant I use it at least 4times a day and during the night if needed. It really does make a difference to me after 10 minutes I feel a lot better. You should ask your consultant about it and tell him how much better you feel after it.

It's all about your quality of life and if that works I would be asking why I can't take it.

Hope you get the answers you want.

Regards Eian

Quite - defo about QoL

But only if nebuliser is given for asthma condition by an asthma/resp consultant. You shouldn’t be really using it for asthma is you’ve never been advised too (ie self-prescribing/self-medicating for an brand new diagnosis). From the sounds of it your o2/nebs weren’t prescribed for your asthma but for another condition.

For some nebs do become part of a maintenance regime for asthma (I’m borderline there atm whilst waiting for Benralizumab) but that’s usually when all other options have been looked into and exhausted, not before.

Hope that explains where I’m coming from 😅

Sorry to hear this

It sounds like you’re asthma is uncontrolled atm (esp if only just been diagnosed or just had a dramatic change in severity/symptoms).

The reason the don’t like nebs at home is cause people don’t go and seek further help when needed them they become statistics. 3 people die from asthma every day, usually young, newly diagnosed or not knowing when to stop self medicating and seek further help. I have a home neb solely cause I’m severe/difficult and live 1hr away from the nearest hospital. It came with rules and my cons don’t want me to use it as long term therapy for the above reason. I’m currently in hospital and got refused discharge on Friday cause I needed too much ventolin (didn’t have any nebs tho even tho have them at home) cause they decided I wasn’t safe one my current med regime (waiting for a new drug in May)

If the pumps you’re on aren’t controlling you and your PF is down then you do need to see someone. If above 50% or feeling moderately off see OOH for steroids etc today (or wait and see your GP tomorrow), if below 50% or feel really rough it’s a&e/urgent care for possible further treatment. You can take up to 10 puffs of blue inhaler at a time, but if you do this you need to go to hospital to get checked over. You’re not wasting their time esp as they can give you treatment to help maintain improvements not just give short term boosts.

I’m always told they’d rather see an asthmatic who didn’t need to be there, than an asthmatic that’s left it almost too late (or didn’t get there in time). If you’re GP has said you need to go in if you get worse than follow her advice. Alternatively if you have an asthma plan follow that one.

Good luck and hope that explains things a bit

See a massage therapist. Investigate and see what happens. I suspect that you are over stressed and a lot of muscles are over tight putting your system into overload situation. The massage therapist hopefully will bring your stress levels down so that you can function better.
