Fostair didn’t work for me. As an alternative I was given Seretide and now I also have Spiriva as well. Before Fostair I had other inhalers. There are a number of alternatives. The important thing is to find one/ones that work for you. Good luck 🤞

My asthma, and the side effects improved lots , but the only way your going to find out is to speak to your nurse, ask for advice, if she agrees then try the alternative your medics suggest

Forstair worked well for me 200/6 but it also gave me horrendous muscle spasms and cramps and I’m now on Seretide 250/50.

in reply toOldandgray

How did you know it was Fostair that caused the cramps, I always thought it was Seretide that did that?

There have been several posts on here about it. Apparently it’s thought to be the LABA component. Within three days of stopping it the muscle spasm and cramps stopped.

There are scores of alternatives! When my doctor looked them up for me, the list filled the entire screen! Fostair is cheap and effective for many, so tends to be the first to be prescribed, but do try others - I had to try 5 before I found one which suited.

Hi which fostair alternative improved you ?

I use Symbicort Turbohaler because I seem to have a problem with the aerosol in other inhalers

Hi I was thinking in terms of improving your asthma ?>

Unfortunately, didn't get a chance to use Fostair long enough to find out, but Symbicort has been very effective (except for mucous production).

Hi thanks , so do you exercise , I only struggle when im running or cycling and not in everyday life , how does your condition affect you

I'm afraid I don't exercise, other than walking, so I'm not a good role model! Had to give up cycling because of prostatitis. Interestingly, some years ago my wife wanted to go to the gym to lose weight, so I went with her. She could spend the whole hour on CV machines, but I could only manage 20 mins, though I did get stronger using the other spparatus; I also felt a little dizzy after the exercise.

It only occurred to me subsequently when I was diagnosed with late onset asthma and moderate/severe fixed small airways obstruction (though I never smoked), that all this lack of stamina was actually down to my lung conditions. Otherwise, the only symptom I have is a lot of lung mucous production; the chest tightness has gone with the inhaler use.

Sorry to hijack your post; could Fostair be causing a strange itchy rash on my inner fore arms? Has anyone has similar? I’ve been on it since January though and it’s only in the last two weeks.

no not me

Fostair made me horrendously itchy but there was no rash or anything visible.

Thanks for your replies! It seems I have a viral rash or possibly start of scarlet fever, which I had briefly before and it feels similar. It’s just odd as it’s fluctuated for a couple of weeks but is getting worse now. On antihistamines! The same Gp once said you’re more likely to catch something after oral steroids which I had about 4-5 weeks ago.

Glad as I love Fostair!

Hi. Yes I've been getting that too

I was tried on Fostair after many years of Seretide 250 - had to switch back as I was taking the max amount of Fostair and it just wasn't working. Don't be afraid to ask to try something else, there is an impetus to move people onto Fostair as it's cheaper than Seretide, it does work for some people but not everyone, so keep trying until you find an inhaler right for you.
