CT scan results.

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone could shed any light on my CT results. I haven't seen or heard from my consultant as yet, my scan was over 2 weeks ago. From other previous tests i heard back in 2 days! I actually have my results as i was an in patient for something else at the time and they took me to my out patient appointment and the CT results are on my discharge letter. It says:

1. Bronchiectatic changes in both lower lung lobes.

2. Linear atelectatic band left lower lung lobe.

3. Calcified nodule at the lingula left side 4mm.

4. Dorsal spine degenerative changes.

I have had a google and found...

1. Scarring possibly permanent.

2. Partial lung collapse.

3. Scary sounding lump.

4. Arthritis of the spine.

This all seems a bit scary. Anyone had similar results? What happened? I'm really surprised my consultant has yet to be in contact.

Thanks for reading!

Perhaps instead of waiting for your consultant to contact you, it might be worthwhile you contacting them. As we are not medically trained we can't make a diagnosis for you. Although it does mention Bronchiectasis . There are many others with that condition (including me). I think if you posted this in the BLF section, you should receive more answers

Hi Treed. The best thing you can do is call the consultants secretary as their number should be on any letter received. I have a CT scan each year for other issues as well as Chronic asthma and have a chest x-ray also. They try to minimise tests like this because of radiation. I have never seen my CT scan results though or any medical terminology. Some consultants will not give you anything other than the outcome written in minimal terms. If you haven't been contacted it means not to worry as when I was really ill they called me back within a few hours to be seen so try not to worry until you have spoken to the Secretary who pretty much knows what is going on with the consultant and their patients!

I agree that calling the Consultant's secretary for a copy of any letter the Consultant has written to your GP. You can also make an appointment to see your GP to discuss with him the results as he will know your medical history and how to interpret it. Test results often sound more scary thatn they are! You need to speak to someone who has the relevant medical knowledge.
