Not sleeping well. Copd sufferer.

The Doctor wants me to make a video on my phone if I wake up during the night due to laboured breathing.Iam on symbicort and spiriva. He maintained it is unusual. .I thought people with copd had disturbed sleep. Please help.

He might be wanting to ascertain if you have obstructive sleep apnoea (Osa) which means you can wake up choking, struggling with breathing. OSA is where you can stop breathing in your sleep (apnoeas).

They would be best referring to a sleep clinic who will send you home with equipment that monitors your oxygen levels (in OSA oxygen levels fine while awake and upright but laying in bed and sleep your oxygen levels can get very low). They will also sound record you ie snoring etc as well as monitor pulse.

If you have OSA a CPAP trial can help.
